Werth/Slowey for Manny fair? WHIR

Postby schmidty » Sun May 10, 2009 5:32 am

This team is already in 1st place (despite horrible injuries), and I can't imagine collapsing so bad I don't make the playoffs. I like the idea of trying to buy low on Manny, and power-up for the second half. It would also be nice if I could swing a 2-for-1 deal, since I (hopefully) will have a couple guys coming off the DL in June. This is a 10-team Yahoo H2H redraft league, with 6x6 scoring (regular 5x5 cats plus OPS and holds). This is my team:

C: McCann
1B: Teix
2B: Utley
3B: Lowell
SS: Drew (I just dropped Yunel Escobar to pick up Ethier - supposed to be back by Wednesday)
OF: Carlos Lee
OF: Ethier
OF: Werth
Util: Damon - OF
Bn: Ordonez - OF (his butt stays benched until his bat wakes up), Abreu - OF, Aramis Ramirez - 3B (DLed, but have no more DL spots)

SP: Halladay, Grienke, Gallardo, Danks, Nolasco, Baker, Slowey, Carpenter (DL), Smoltz (DL)
RP: Soria, Franklin, Percival, Putz (don't forget - this is a holds league, so I need at least one middle reliever)

Here's the guy with Manny. His pitching staff is getting destroyed every week, so you'd have to think he'd welcome a decent arm along with a Manny replacement:

C: Barajas
1B: Pujols
2B: Phillips
3B: Cantu
SS: Jeter
OF: Hunter
OF: Cameron
OF: Ibanez
Util: Swisher - 1B/OF
Bn: Manny - OF, Navarro - C, Hudson - 2B, Theriot - SS, Atkins - 1B/3B, Posada - C (DL)

SP: Cliff Lee, Lester, Pettitte, Lohse, Meche, Webb (DL)
RP: Lidge, Wilson, Fuentes, Okajima

I've tried sending this guy an e-mail, but haven't gotten any response. But I know a lot of people don't actually check the e-mail accounts that Yahoo links. I know in the past I've had people ignore me through e-mail, only to respond positively when they see a trade notice on top of their page. I'm hoping this is the case, so I want to send over a trade offer and see what happens.

What do you think would be a good starting offer? I don't want to be insulting, but I'd also like to start out on the low end of a reasonable trade. I was thinking of Werth/Slowey - my lowest ranked OFer and SP. Or I could try Magglio/Slowey or Werth/Danks? Maybe they're all bad, and I should try something else? Suggestions are welcome! Leave a link and I'll answer yours.

I would offer it. I am thinking of doing the same thing. Manny seems sorry and will try to play harder IF the dodgers let him come back.

IF the Dodgers let him come back? That's funny.

lol ya that is funny, not even close manny comes back if he's healthy, but as I've kinda noticed players tend to be injured a lot after getting caught taking da roids (A-rod, Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, etc.)

I would offer than. Manny would be a second half boost. Manny can still swing the bat, and the layoff probably won't effect him at all. At least worth a try especialy with your team already in first.

I wiuld do this deal. You have plenty of talent and can stash Manny. Manny will come back for the 2nd half and tear it up!

Sorry for the delay on returning the favor (was out for mother's day)

Ah crap ... he rejected the trade and countered with my Halladay for his Manny. Needless to say, I didn't even consider it. Do you think if I upgraded the offer to Werth/Danks for Manny that would still be good for me?
