Aramis to the DL. Who to pick up? WHIR

Postby pappymojo » Sat May 09, 2009 11:22 pm

I'm torn. I was originally thinking that I would pick up Tommy Hanson, but Berkman has now sat for two straight days and now I'm worried. I have Chris Davis but he can't cover for both Berkman and Aramis Ramirez.

My Team:

C - Baker
1B - Berkman
2B - Hill
3B - C Davis
SS - Rollins
OF - C Lee, Hart, Ordonez
Util - Adam Jones
Bench - Alexei Ramirez, Wieters
DL - Aramis Ramirez
SP - Grienke, Felix Hernandez, Josh Johnson, Vazquez, Nolasco, Bedard, Wainwright
RP - Fuentes, Heath Bell

Available Free Agents (please help me to pick one):

James Loney (1B)
Paul Konerko (1B)
Jeremy Hermida (OF)
Travis Snider (OF)
Mark Teahan (1B, 3B, OF)
Todd Helton (1B)
Dan Murphy (OF)
Manny Parra (SP)
Kelvim Escobar (SP)*
Ricky Romero (SP)*
Tommy Hanson (SP)

* Currently on the DL

I was originally thinking I would grab Tommy Hanson, but now I'm thinking I need a 1B in case Berkman is seriously hurt. Loney or Helton? Please help me decide.

I'd grab Loney. Quality player, quality team, you know he'll play all the time, hits in the middle of the lineup.

Helton is on a hot spell, so he is a good fix. Loney is other option.
Teahan also leaves you options.

I like Helton as the short term fix. Loney has arguments. Teahan versatility. That's my order.

Are you like me and struggling to hang on to Alex Ramirez??? He may be tempting with Hanson. I think Hill/Rollins are pretty entrenched in their roles.

Help out a Cafe brother???

I like Loney for the long term, I think. Better hitting position now that Manny is out...someone has to step up there. Your pitching I think is strong enough to wait for another opening to pick up Hanson.

Thanks for your help ;-D

the worst part about owning Alexei is that I didn't even mean to draft him. My internet connection dropped off. The computer drafted Alexei. When my connection came back on I only had 30 seconds on my next pick and I grabbed Ordonez as my second OF.

Last year, I had Kinsler as my 2B and Tejada as my SS. I probably picked up and dropped Alexei three times just praying he would pick up SS eligibility so I could drop the albatros that was Tejada. Of course, once he finally got SS eligibility, I picked him up and then Kinsler promptly got hurt so I ended up playing Alexei at 2B anyways. I won the league. ;-D

this year I thought Alexei was overvalued going into the draft. at this point though I'll ride his cold streak out as his position eligibility makes him a great bench player should he ever heat up (hopefully in time for the playoffs - if I make it).
