DRAFT IN PROGRESS: Do I need to address any weaknesses?

Postby Dr.DooM » Sun Mar 14, 2004 9:27 am

Currently Round 8 in a 13-team mixed league 5x5 roto. I have already drafted the following:

Albert Pujols
Eric Chavez
Jeff Kent
Roy Oswalt
Esteban Loaiza
Jason Isringhausen
Orlando Cabrera

I think my infield is in decent shape. I had to draft pitchers earlier than I had planned because of an unexpected mad rush for pitchers early in the draft. Right now there are six managers ahead of me and I'd like to know whether I should devote my next two picks on power hitters or pick one hitter and one pitcher.

Just for frame of reference, here is the current roster of a competing manager who won last year:

Bret Boone
Edgar Renteria
Mike Mussina
Javier Vazquez
Brandon Webb
Miguel Cabrera
Shawn Green
Rafael Palmeiro

Am I on par with him so far? Or has he drafted better than I have?

You're almost totally ignoring steals. Pick up Pierre or Crawford, or start grabbing OFs that also steal a few bases and pick up D Roberts and A Sanchez later. After two hitters, I'd take another closer (Benitez or Rhodes quality).
Another Year, Another Championship. I'm 2 for 2.

I'd give you the slight edge, but Loaiza and Izzy were too early.

Carlos Lee and Carl Crawford are still available. If they are around by my turn, I will pick them (we go in reverse order 1-2-3,3-2-1)

Both would be good selections in this round.
