Ethier dropped! Use #1 waiver? WHIR

Another kind of surprising drop in my 10-team Yahoo H2H redraft league (6x6 scoring; with OPS and holds). I have #1 waiver, so he's mine if I want him. Though my roster is currently feeling a big injury crunch (only 2 DL spots), and I need to maximize my players. Also, my leaguemates have done dumb drops in the past (it's likely something better could come along). And no one trades Which means picking up someone with the intent of trading (either that guy, or someone else) is a pointless plan. Anyway, here's the team:

C: McCann
1B: Teix
2B: Utley
3B: Lowell
SS: Yunel Escobar
OF: Carlos Lee
OF: Werth
OF: Abreu
Util: Damon
Bn: Ordonez - OF (have to bench until he shows signs of life), ARam (soon to be on DL), Drew (DL)

SP: Halladay, Grienke, Gallardo, Nolasco, Baker, Danks, Slowey, Smoltz (DL), Carpenter (DL)
RP: Soria, Franklin, Percival, Putz (don't forget - this is a holds league, and this is my only holds guy)

If Drew comes off the DL, that would open up a roster spot (dropping Yunel). Before the Ethier drop, I was thinking of using that spot for another pitcher (another SP or a holds guy). If I pick up Ethier, that would leave me with 6 outfielders - not a great use of my roster spots. If Drew doesn't come back ... well, I have to have a SS. I don't see another easy drop here. Is this worth the #1 waiver claim? I'd be surprised if a better player wasn't dropped later on (like a top 50 guy). I suppose Ethier could be an upgrade over some of my starters, but Werth and Damon are playing well (and Ordonez has to start hitting eventually). Who knows what the Manny-less effect will be on Ethier's numbers. He put up consistently ok numbers in 2007 and the first 4 months of 2008 (0.280, 10-15 HR power, 0.800 OPS) but really shot up when Manny joined the team.

I would definitely use the waiver on Ethier. With Manny out he may be batting third in that lineup and in the very least you can trade an OF for some SP.

Defenitely take him. He's a player that's worth the pick.

oh yeah, that's why you keep the #1 waiver.... he seems to be as legit as he's ever been this year, as he was keeping pace with manny when he was in the lineup (~.280/6/20 or thereabouts, i believe)

grab ethier while you can; he won't last long. why would someone drop the #27 overall player in fantasy?

Get Ethier. He can be used to upgrade and also gives you flexibility (trade an OF) for a weakness.
