BJ Ryan - is he worth it?

Postby 910BronxBomber » Fri May 08, 2009 2:36 pm

I don't do this much (asking for help and all), but I really am stumped on this particular guy and/or trade.

I'm being offered P Palonco and BJ Ryan for F Sanchez and H bell.

The league is dynasty format.

Now I know in the normal world, this is a no brainier, so to speak. But this is not the normal world. BJ Ryan is fresh off of tommy john surgery. Now from what I can tell, tommy john surgery takes about 12-16 months for a pitcher to return, and about 18-24 months for a pitcher to return to his prime. BJ Ryan is about 11 months into his recovery and is currently sitting on the DL in the midst of a horrid season.

The next issue at hand, is two guys by the name of Scott Downs and Jeremy Arccardo. I know Arccardo has not pitched yet this season, but he has shown he can close before converting 30 out of 35 saves in 2007. Downs on the other hand is filling in as we speak, and is doing a brilliant job.

So, I guess my question is, is BJ Ryan done?

Cheers,
