Is moving a closer smart

Postby petert » Fri May 08, 2009 12:09 pm

Looking for some assistance here once again so hello to all.

I curently have 4 closers on my team and am looking to upgrade my power. ZIGI, CORDERO, CAPPS, LINDSTROM

I have been offered

Morales for Zigi

and have been offered

Inge for Linsdrom

Are these trades even worth it?
Seems like closers are alot harder to come by then last year. Personally I like Lindsrom over Zigi but i think they are very close in value.

If you help me i will return (as i always do) the advise to all those reply just leave me your linked question.

Thanks!

I always like dealing closers as I always feel there'll be a chance to pick up saves off the WW during the year (already look at Downs, Hawkins, Franklin, etc. this year). I'm not sure what kind of league you're in or how many teams there are, but I think you could do better than Morales for a bona fide closer. Inge is intriguing, but I don't think he'll hit like he has in April (still he's useful for a team without a top-5 catcher). I think either Zigi or Lindstrom are fine to trade (Zigi has a lot of competition in the Oak pen, while I've never really been comfortable with Lindstrom closing). Unless you could use Inge at C, I'd look to get more for either of them from a manager desparate for saves.

Good luck!

Any chance you get to move a closer do it, imo they have little value, not sure what your league scoring is like but for example in my league SVs is just one category it means nothing. And i agree you can always get a closer of waiver guys lose their starting jobs all the time.

In my opinion, a well rounded team should have at most two closers. However, I could understand an argument for three closers.

Getting back to your question, if your league is not a keeper league, then I think you could most certainly get more for zigi then Morales. If the league is a keeper league, I like the move. Morales is a switch hitter, whom is coming into his own the more games he gets under his belt. I mean lets face it, zigi is a soft throwing submariner. I just don't see him lasting the whole year as the A's closer. Not when they have closer stuff waiting in the wings in the form of Bailey. If I were you, I would sell zigi as a closer while I still could.

I've never really been comfortable with lindstorm closing either. It seems to me that sometimes he throws too hard for his own good, as evident in his disaster last week, or the week before that (please forgive my memory lapse). Inge on the other hand has sleeper written all over him. Yes, his average is going to drop, but if you look at the past, he usually starts off well, and falls off later in the season from the pressure of being a catcher. This year, he's the everyday third basemen. I think Inge is in for a career year myself.

Both of these offers make sense, but obviously I would take the latter one if it wasn't a keeper league.

Cheers,
