Braun/Rivera for Longoria/Zeigler? WHIR

Postby clarkw267 » Fri May 08, 2009 1:35 am

I really need to upgrade my IF. I have a solid OF corps. I know the downgrade from Rivera to Zeigler is a large one, but would it be worth it to land Longoria in a keeper?

Thanks.

Obviously, the issue with Ziegler, besides the talent downgrade from Rivera, is whether he even he holds onto the job. If he doesn't, you've basically made a 2 for 1 in the wrong direction. That being said, Longoria is Top 10+ in a keeper league and you have Ibanez ready to step into the OF/UTL spot. Probably things you've already considered 100 times...

Go with your gut.

I love the trade if you can pull it off. Longoria's power is indisputably legit, and Big Mo doesn't look the same right now. Thanks for the help on mine.

Oh yeah. Rivera did get touched up for 2 HRs in the 9th tonight, one of them by none other than Mr. Longoria. Maybe he's hit the slide...

At age 39, and in the sandbox which is new Yankees stadium, maybe he has. At least not enough to offset improving Longoria to Braun and downgrading Mo to Zieg.

I'm one of the nuts that's low on Longoria, not saying he's awful, but seeing trades straight up for like miguel pujols and sizemore rub me the wrong way. This is taking it to the next level, as not only do I feel braun is straight up better, we're talking top 3 closer for someone not keeping his job. True Mariano isn't being Mariano... but in his worst he'll never sink as low as ziegler. Sure this is a keeper and Longoria is only like 23, but Braun is only 25... so you won't be seeing the decline in the latter years for at least a decade from either player, so I think it's safe to say the keeper factor is negligible. I can see you wanting to upgrade your infield, but there are many ways you can do it for cheaper than selling the farm for a hot hand like evan. Go after guys like beltre, huff, or maybe a skeptical owner who doesn't think zimmermann is legit, which IMO he is and then some.

I'm confused. Isn't he getting Longoria and Ziegler? In any case, I wouldn't call going from Longoria to Braun an "upgrade".

I view Longoria as being more valuable than Braun because of the position he plays - Braun is special but it's much easier to get consistent production from an outfielder than a 3rd baseman. Hands down. Mark Reynolds, anyone?

First off I hope you are starting Ibanez instead of B.J. Upton. Next, I would def deal Braun for a 3rd baseman, I would try for a 1-1 deal for Longoria. If the other owner insists on the Ziegler for Mo aspect as well do it, its not a huge deal and the upgrade at 3rd is HUGE!

Help with mine?
