Just stole his 12th bag of the season, are we seeing a reengergized Abreu pulling out some of the speed he used to have? i mean we are talking about 12 bags in 26 games, i know hes usually good for 25-30 a year, but hes almost half way there only 26 games in? Is this something we can expect to slack off or is it legit? Gonna be pissed if he turns out 35 bags but only bout 15 hr as hes yet to put one over the fence... any thoughts here?
The SBs will most definately slow down. But he may go for 30 or more. I figured as long as he's on base, they will give him the green light to go. Maybe when Vlad returns, he'll start to hit more instead of play like a lead off.
It's logical that his pace on swipes will decrease, although I guess he'll keep running so long as: 1. Vlad is out 2. The Angels play tight games +/-4 runs 3. Nobody throws him out. He's 12/12 so far.
Given these circumstances, 30-40 SB might be attainable but I don't see him maintaining a 70 theft pace.
Abreu's power has been in decline for a while now although it's been largely masked by playing at the old Yankee Stadium. In the two full seasons of 2007-08 in pinstripes he had only 12 dingers on the road vs. 24 at home. Keep in mind he also hit .279 and a dismal .241 on the road during those years too. Read what you will into his stats on the road and lack of a favorable home park/lineup for the rest of 2009.
When Vlad gets back his runs will go up. Expect him to hit .285.-.300, 90R, 12-15HR, 90RBI and 30-35SB. His speed is not what it used to be. He knows when to run, gets good jumps and knows how to read pitchers. He won't steal 70, but 35-40 is an outside possiblity if he stays healthy. Vlad (if healthy) hitting behind him will boost his #s in every area except SB.

good luck getting those 12-15 homers and 90rbis... i'm guessing more 5-10 homers with like 65-75 rbis... yea when vlad comes back it'll help out but he's definitely a base hitter now, not a power guy.

5-10?? are you kidding me? this is a guy that went 100/20/100/22 last year... 15 should be an easily attained goal... i know hes not the 'power hitter' he used to be, but come on your talkin about a guy that has hit under 20 3 times total in his career, yes hes getting old but hell hes still only 35 (i know ill get the 'ahhh ONLY 35') but its not like hes creeping in on his death bed... i was looking for 90-95/15-20/90-100/25-30 out of him this year, i mean is that REALLY that far out of reach??
yes i am kidding you... the guy was playing in a Yankee lineup the past few seasons... in Yankee Stadium ! now he's in an Angel lineup with its best hitter being Vlad who's ancient as well... and crippled... trust me this guy is still a good fantasy guy, but not for homers or rbi's... he's a SB man now and runs thats it.
I'm saying he gets 10-12 HR's in the second half, with the Angels taking the division (besides the point) and 3 over the next 6 weeks. So, 15 sounds about right. I'm on with the speed subsiding for various reasons, but I'm still seeing 30-40.
When Vlad comes back I wouldn't mind seeing him hit 5th with Torii batting 3rd, then he'd get his power and RBI's back regardless of which stadium he plays in, he's a pure hitter.
