Free Agents to Add? WHIR! Promise!

Postby FantasyStud » Thu May 07, 2009 12:43 pm

Hey all,

My Keeper League team is posted below, 5x5 categories, 10 teams in the league. I have 55/100 points. First place currently has 74.5/100.

C-Bengie Molina
1B-Ryan Howard
2B-Dan Uggla
SS-Jose Reyes
3B-Pablo Sandoval (1B/3B eligible, soon C eligible)
OF-Magglio Ordonez
OF-Curtis Granderson
OF-Jacoby Ellsbury
OF-Johnny Damon
OF-Andre Eithier
UTL-Miguel Cabrera (only 1B eligible)
UTL-
DL-Alex Gordon

P-CC Sabathia
P-Ryan Dempster
P-Justin Verlander
P-Gil Meche
P-Mark Buehrle
P-Francisco Rodriguez
P-Joakim Soria
P-David Aardsma
P-LaTroy Hawkins
BN-Armando Galarraga
BN-Randy Wolf
BN-Wandy Rodriguez
DL-John Lackey

Prospect-Carlos Carasco
Prospect-David Price
Prospect-Matt Wieters
Prospect-Dexter Fowler
Prospect-Brett Anderson
Prospect-Pedro Alvarez

My worst scoring categories so far have been ERA, WHIP, Saves, Wins, and Runs. In every other category, I have 7/10 points or better.

I currently have a vacant spot in utility. The best hitters available are: Jason Bartlett, Rickie Weeks, Mike Lowell, Mark Reynolds, Marco Scutaro, Freddy Sanchez, Coco Crisp. I was thinking of dropping Randy Wolf after his start today versus Washignton.

My team was struggling with saves, so I added both LaTroy Hawkins and David Aardsma as temporary options. I was going to drop one when John Lackey is eligible to come off the DL next week.

Also, I recently dropped Andy Sonnanstine. He is still a free agent, and I was wondering if any of you would advise that I add him again after his impressive start versus the Yankees yesterday? Aside from him, the best pitchers available are Tim Wakefield, John Maine, Rafael Soriano, Bronson Arroyo, and Justin Masterson.

Or should I try to make a trade - any players I should focus on moving or bringing in?

Post your link, and I'll DEFINITELY help you in return! I PROMISE! Thanks!

There's a lot of hitters there that are good, though if you need runs, I do like Weeks as a pickup since he's batting at the top of the order and has some hitters that are capable of bringing him home. I would drop Wolf after this start, and use him as a spot starter if the Dodgers keep up producing at home (not a guarantee now with this Manny issue).

Also, I would add Sonnanstine back compared to all of those other pitchers, he's the best of all of them, and his start this year hasn't really been up to how he normally pitches.

I would keep Wolf for at least one more start - just to see.

As far as the hitting free agents go, to me, it's a toss up between Lowell and Weeks.

Lowell is you want AVG and RBI, Weeks if you need SB's and R's.

I agree, but Weeks or Crisp might be good. Crisp seems to have new life in ..gulp...KC. regardless, he's drawing walks, hitting, and stealing.

Also, I like Sonnanstine or possibly Masterson as a pickup for your SP

thanks for helping with mine

I like Lowell for your utility spot.

Sonnanstine is the best of the SP that are available.

I like Lowell a lot for your team. Keep an eye on Maine as his #'s dont tell the whole story. He has had two very good starts in a row. Also, Masterson has great stuff and has gotten a bit unlucky. (Francona leaving him in too long)

What do you think about this deal, bud?

I have to agree with nails, Lowell is probably the best option for your team even though i think weeks is a better overall player right now. I have Sonnanstine on my team also so i know how frustrating he is, but there really isnt much better out there.

Coco gets my vote. He does seem to have new life and has been producing like a solid no 3.
