J. Upton/Sandoval for Granderson?

Postby Texas Flats » Thu May 07, 2009 12:25 pm

Here's the deal. I need to free up some roster space, and I'll be honest, I really don't like the idea of dropping anyone on my team, so I'm looking to pull of a 2-1, maybe 3-2 trade, and I got this offer. It's a 5x5 H2H league, 10 teams, 5 keepers each year, doesn't matter where they were drafted. Here's my team, I was offered Curtis Granderson for Justin Upton (an 18th rd pick for me) and Pablo Sandoval (FA pickup when Aramis Ramirez went down a week or two ago.)

Code: Select all
C -
1B - Mark Teixeira
2B - Chase Utley
3B - Aramis Ramirez
SS - Michael Young
OF - Grady Sizemore
OF - Carlos Quentin
OF - Justin Upton
UTIL - Brad Hawpe
B - Pablo Sandoval
B - David Ortiz
B - BJ Upton
B - Matt Wieters
DL - Ryan Doumit

SP - Roy Halladay
SP - Chad Billingsley
RP - Jonathan Broxton
RP - Ryan Franklin
P - Matt Cain
P - Aaron Harang
P - Rich Harden
B - Gil Meche
B - Javier Vazquez
DL - John Smoltz

Do you like the trade? I'm losing a lot of potential, but Granderson is at least a known quantity. I don't think I'd be keeping Justin Upton for next year, because I could easily get him back in the draft until he finally has his breakout campaign, and with just 5 keepers (again, regardless of draft position,) I'd just be keeping my top 5 players, and at least right now, I have guys who would be ahead of him (and Granderson may be up there in the discussion for guys I'd keep next year, too).

My first instinct is to take the trade, but I wanted to at least get a second opinion before I go ahead and accept or reject it.

Anyone on the roster you'd give up on and let go into waivers? I need some space for a catcher until Wieters gets called up or Doumit gets off the DL, and I like having an extra space on the roster where I can more or less stream players (mostly pitchers) with good matchups.

The same guy who gave me this trade proposal also brought up the idea of Vazquez/Billingsley for Haren. Way too much to give up there, right?

Bump. I'm really torn on this one, one minute I'm ready to jump on it, the next I'm thinking I shouldn't do it. Any advice?

He also offered me Jered weaver for Javier Vazquez, but that doesn't really do much for my team.

I like this deal for you, I am just looking at Justin Upton for Granderson and that falls in favor of Granderson. Sandoval went in the 17th round of my draft and is not doing much as of right now. I like Granderson's consistency while Upton can be streaky. You already have 2 great options at catcher so Sandoval won't help you there, and he certainly won't be of any assitance at 1st or 3rd since you have Tex and Aram. He is going to just sit on your bench, I would make this deal.

Help with mine?
