Sell high on Volquez?

Postby WabashMasher » Thu May 07, 2009 11:26 am

Volquez has been tearing it up in his last two outings, but he still worries me as a SP because of his control issues. I don't think he'll ever have two back to back games as good as he's just had. So this begs the question...do I sell him while he's hot? I'm in the market for a SS or 3B and I feel like I can get Rollins after his slow start, or maybe Chipper Jones.

It depends on how deep your starting pitching is and how bad your SS/3B situation. I'm not too sure about trading Volquez based on control concerns for Chipper or Rollins who have equal Age/Injury concerns. We all have to roll the dice sometimes and either of those guys are pretty good buy low candidates.

Best of Luck

My pitching depth is...ok.

We start 5, I have: Hamels, Joba, Volquez, Bedard, Millwood, Volstad, DiceK.

Lots of my guys have big question marks next to them (Joba, DiceK). If Hamels can stay on the mound for 6 or 7, Bedard can stay healthy, Millwood can keep up his great start and DiceK can just hold it together for a season...I should be good. That's a lot of if's though.

Looking at this, I think you have too many ???? at SP to move a guy like Volquez. Your staff could turn into a powerhouse or fall off a cliff. I would hold Volquez. If Dice-K comes off the DL with a huge performance or Joba comes out in his next start and K's 8 in a row again. Those east coast big market bias will bring added value. You'll have a lot of bargaining chips. I say hold tight for a couple more weeks.
