I am punting saves so I want some RP that will get a few wins, a K/IP or so and nice ratios. Who are some guys that you can count on? The top 2 coming in to this year in most rankings were Balfour and Kuo and both have been worthless so far. I like Soriano as long as he stays healthy and maybe JJ Putz...who are some other guys you would say are rock solid to put up sub-3.00 ERAs and 1.20 or better WHIPS with 8+ k/9 but not closing?
If that is your strategy (and I don't think it's a bad strategy), I would go for 8th inning guys who could become closers. Even if you don't get the saves, you can flip them for something else when it happens.
The being said, these are some guys I'd look at (I don't know if they'd hit your number requirements):
Andrew Bailey Juan Cruz Chris Ray (won't get the numbers, but may turn into a closer) Jose Arredondo Carlos Marmol Octavio Dotel

Yeah I agree, but part of the reason I am punting saves is so I don't have weak closers hurting my ratios. All of those but Dotel are owned in my league because of their possible saves opps. Dotel is good for K's but I don't see him helping much in ERA or WHIP. Last year when these guys were really pitching well I had Wheeler, Balfour, JP Howell and Devine all on my team (I wasn't punting saves then though) and they helped me win the league even though the saves were few. Shields used to be this kind of guy but he isn't so good lately. Am I missing someone really good?
