He just through a no-hitter, albeit of the 5 inning rain-shortened variety. A couple of starts earlier he fanned 11. Does anyone know (especially any White Sox fans) if he is close to a call-up? Would he be "next" in line to get a start if anyone such as Colon or Contreras gets hurt? Or would they go with Clayton Richard? Thanks!

I've been wondering about him myself. He has been lights out. I read somewhere that he was going to be June 1st call-up but haven't heard anything recently. I believe he is in double-A so I would think he will at least make a stop at Triple -A for a few starts. Any word from ChiSox fans??

The good on Poreda is that he throws in the upper 90's.

The bad is that he throws a straight fastball and his slider still needs work and he has no confidence in his slider.

His fastball alone can dominate AA/AAA hitters but that won't work at the MLB level. See Jason Motte (not bad this year but not great).

But it's always good to start with the heater and then work on the secondary pitches. Hopefully he is in the minors right now developing confidence in his slider because he'll need it regardless of how well he's doing.

As a White Sox fan, we are pretty excited about this kid. What the previous poster said is correct, he has a great fastball but his secondary pitchers are not where they need to be. When his slider is working he is dominating, but if he isn't locating it, he can get in trouble. He is working on a change-up and curveball I believe as well. Once he can get one of the secondary pitches consistent and can have an above average 3rd pitch, he will be in the majors, until then he will stay in AA. I don't think he'll need a stop in AAA if things look good!

Great feedback, thanks guys. I just did read that Guillen said he is not close to the majors yet...that he's the future and they want him to be fully ready to contribute when he gets called up. Goes in line with what you were saying. Thanks again.
