His numbers are pretty good out of the gate (4.42/1.15, 27 Ks in 36 IP), and look even better if you discount the one start where he gave up more than 3 ER, a shelling he took @ Tex. Only 7% owned in Yahoo. His walks are also low. On the other hand, pitches in the AL East and it's hitters' first look ta him.

His stats from Japan are odd -- he was actually converted to closer for 2007, then back to starting last year.

Anyone know anything about this guy? Maybe someone to keep an eye on at least.

I personally think he's a guy that's gonna struggle when teams start to get scouting reports on him and have more film to look at. He relies on location and though his K's are good, everything I had read coming into the season was that he was more of a guy who generates soft contact and occasionally gets k's by painting the black. That being the case, it doesn't leave him a lot of room for error against the better lineups in the AL. However, I see no reason not to keep an eye on him if he's on your wire, maybe he'll prove to be a good spot play.
