Lets not compare him to Big Papi yet... his average is .271, what is Papi's? I think maybe people are just too impatient. He just got off the DL like about a week or two ago.
RF Vladimir Guerrero was making just his second start in right field this season when he suffered a leg injury that knocked him out of the game. Guerrero fielded the ball and set to make a throw. That's when his left leg "just tightened up on him," according to manager Mike Scioscia. Guerrero went down to his knees and eventually left the game. The preliminary diagnosis is a strained muscle behind his left knee. The problem does not appear to involve any knee ligaments.
&^%$#@!, Vlad was just starting to hit, too. Let's hope it's nothing too serious, but a muscle behind the knee (or one report said upper calf) ...? Yuck.
Right fielder Vladimir Guerrero left the Los Angeles Angels' game against the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night with a strained muscle behind his left knee.
Guerrero fielded a single by Elvis Andrus and was about to make a throw when it looked like he stepped awkwardly on his left leg.
Guerrero then fell to his hands and knees, but got up and walked around before trainers came out to look at his leg. Guerrero, who was hitting .291 with four home runs, walked off the field on his own and was replaced by Gary Matthews Jr.
Well, he got up and walked around... that sounds like a good sign, although I didn't see it. Anyone who saw it care to give us an idea of how optimistic we should feel about him walking around so soon after the injury?
Angels have put Vlad on the DL. And Hunter, too -- tough day in SoCal!
The only info so far is from a press release with no info on the prognosis. But does mention Vlad also has a "lower hamstring strain," which I don't believe had been been disclosed.
Angels put Guerrero and Hunter on DL Friday, July 10, 2009
Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - The LA Angels of Anaheim lost two-thirds of their outfield to the disabled list Friday, as Vladimir Guerrero and Torii Hunter were both shelved.
Guerrero suffered a strained muscle behind his left knee and a lower hamstring strain during a July 7 game against Texas on a defensive play in right field. He was playing the outfield for just the second time this season, spending most of the year as the designated hitter after previously missing 38 games while on the DL for a torn right pectoral muscle.
Hunter, meanwhile, is sidelined with an adductor strain on his right side. He also last played on July 7 and will miss next Tuesday's All-Star Game.
The Angels recalled infielder Brandon Wood and catcher Bobby Wilson from Triple-A Salt Lake to fill the roster spots.
Wood was batting .313 with 17 homers and 52 runs batted in at Salt Lake, while Wilson was hitting .261 with seven homers and 27 RBI.
