Does this guy have the ability to continue the hot start for very much longer? Ok maybe not "hot," but at 4-0, 2.67 and the Jay's leading the MLB in nearly every offensive stat, he's showing good consistency and getting the support. Rich won four consecutive starts, @MIN, TEX, @KC, BAL and has managed this without giving up more than 2 earned runs and 6 hits in any of those outings (even though his OBA is .291 so far). I'm in a 12-team Yahoo league and I'm afraid to hold on to Wakefield any longer. Richmond's next starts will likely be @OAK, NYY, CWS/@BOS. Any thoughts or predictions on whether he or the Jays can keep it up?
I wrote this a little over a week ago in a thread that got no attention:
He's a 29 year old Canadian rookie and he has significant splits in his short career:
Vs. Left: 21.0 IP, 35 H, 5 HR, 15 K, 5 BB, .368 AVG Vs. Right 22.1 IP, 12 H, 0 HR, 20 K, 4 BB, .156 AVG
Basically, he's nothing special. I think he could be a 4.25-4.50 ERA starter at this level, but his inability to get lefties out will hold him back from being anything more than that.
Ricciardi did make a good move by finding him in the Northern league, though.
Not much has changed since then. His velocity on his fastball has gone up 1.6 MPH this season, but he still struggles against lefties.
