Any catcher that can get you 15-20 HR, 80-90 RBI and a .280 AVG. and can be had after the 12th round is golden. McCann, Martin, Mauer and Martinez will get you more runs but what round do you have to draft them in? You can draft a player with better stats instead of getting one of them, then pick Molina up in the 13-14th round and get similar production.

I love the guys that draft the top tier catchers early.

Molina went right around where he should have. You had the big 4 that obviously were going to go over him and then the 'big upside' 4 that generally went ahead of him and then Posada and Molina and then Weiters As others have mentioned you can't ignore the R total which is so low it offsets a lot of his RBI. He is a solid option but not some huge bargain.

I personally have never drafted Bengie. But, you could do far worse at catcher in a standard 5x5 league.

Last year stats for Bengie...

16 HR tied for 6th among all catchers.
95 RBI 1st place among all catchers.
.292 BA 2nd place among all catchers with at least 500 AB
46 Runs his weak spot, but only 7 catchers scored more than 8 runs above what Bengie scored.

Catchers typically don't score many runs, with few exceptions. So I don't think it detracts from his value as much as most people think.

Like I said, I have never drafted Bengie. Just felt a need to stick up for him. He is a former Angel and as an Angel fan am happy to see him doing well. I own the guy hitting in front of him.
