I'm being offered Volstad, Nolasco, or Jurrens for Adam LaRoche. I need SP more than I need him. Which of the three do you recommend?
I know Nolasco is the bigger name, but Volstad has looked good, and his BB's are down to1 over his last 2 starts. Plus, he held Philly to 2 ER, striking out 6.
I would also go with Nolasco. His april last year was terrible. Some guys are slow starters. Although he has been rediculous this year. He will come around.
I have all three of these guys on my team, and here's my take. Jurrjens and Volstad are more-or-less the same. Volstad is probably pitching better than he should be right now, and Jurrjens is right on target, but Jurrjens is getting killed by lack of run support. With Chipper back every day and Infante getting starts over Johnson, if McCann can see with his new specs, Jurrjens is going to get some more run support, and should a slightly better longterm pitcher over Volstad. Nolasco's the high-upside gamble. He had a poor April last season and then struck out the league down the stretch. Will he do it again? I'm hoping he will, but it's still a gamble. He's getting shelled pretty good right now.
If you need a big gamble or your team is strong enough to let Nolasco sit for a few starts or fall off the map entirely, then go for Nolasco. Huge upside potential. If you just need stability and aren't up for the big play, go with who you think will have the better offense between the Braves (Jurrjens) and the Marlins (Volstad). They're both consistent guys who can be counted on to give up a couple of earned runs over 6 innings and are unlikely to throw a complete game shutout or get yanked early because of an epic collapse. I tend to like Jurrjens, because the Braves offense should get much better when McCann returns, and Jair rarely gives up the longball, but you can't really go wrong with any of them. Like I said, I have all three, but Nolasco's riding the pine until I feel confident he's returned to form.

Thanks for the feedback. It's rare to get someone who owns all three, and I appreciate your insight. I pulled the trigger and took a shot with Nolasco. I can afford the chance.
