Matt Capps' recent struggles a concern?

Over his last 3 outings, Capps has given up at least one run...However, in only one of those did he blow a save (4 ER vs Milwaukee)

His ERA has gone from 1.42 to 7+ over his last 3 outings...Is there enough reason for concern here?

Hiding a possible injury maybe? He missed some time last yr to injury which scares me...

Also, do you guys think there could be a shift in the closer's role in Pittsburgh due to this?

Anyone with insight or suggestions?

I don't think its a concern, every RP blows a save now and again, (except for Mr perfect Brad Lidge).

The only concern I see is that capps only walked 5 batters in over 50 IP's last year. Thus far this year he's walked 4 batters in 8 IP's. Just something to keep an eye on in his next several outings.

His last 2 outings came after 7 or 8 days without throwing a pitch in a game so maybe it's just rust.

As incredibly frustrating he has been, I still have faith in him. He was money to start the season and I haven't heard anything about him being hurt..

Matt Capps will be sidelined until this weekend with what's being called "minor discomfort" in his right elbow.
An examination on Tuesday indicated that there's no structural damage, and given that Capps was throwing 93-95 mph in his last appearance, the Pirates are optimistic. "We're just giving him a rest, and we think he should be fine by this weekend," manager John Russell said. "He already felt a lot better today, and we'll see how he feels here in the next little while." John Grabow and Tyler Yates are expected to share the closer duties while Capps is out.

That's never a good thing...Elbow problems are scary...I'd personally go with Grabow at this point...Even though he blew 4 out of 8 saves, Yates did even worse, blowing 4 out of 5...

I heard it was a bone bruise, which will be better in a few days. There appears to be no structural damage that caused the bruising, so hopefully he will be fine. I wouldn't expect him to miss too much time.

I am not sure if you heard this or not, but was the bruise brought about through pitching or some other factor?
