Crawford/Chipper/K-Rod for Howard/Cordero?

Postby Thursday » Mon May 04, 2009 7:35 pm

A trade was proposed to me in my long-time keeper league.

I get:

Carl Crawford
Chipper Jones
Francisco Rodriguez

I give:

Ryan Howard
Francisco Cordero

Seems like a good deal on paper, does this work for me? I'm actually leaning towards rejecting... I'm a die-hard Phillies fan, and i've owned Howard for years now.

Here's my squad:

12-team, H2H, 6x6 league (R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG., OPS. for hitters, and W, SV, K, Holds, ERA, WHIP for pitchers).

Keeper league, we keep 4:

C - Brandon Inge
1B - Ryan Howard
2B - Chase Utley
3B - Ryan Braun
SS - Troy Tulowitzki
OF - Ryan Braun
OF - Jason Bay
OF - Jacoby Ellsbury
Util - Ryan Ludwick
B - Kosuke Fukudome

SP - Kazmir, Gallardo, Lester, Myers, Saunders, Hughes, Maholm, Kershaw
RP - F. Cordero, Capps, Wood, Sherrill

Honestly I think this is a good deal for you in the short and narrow. You get a huge upgrade at closer and get a two for one for Howard and get two great players. My only concern is how long will this be to your advantage. Crawford still has a long time left but how much more tread is on the Chipper Jones set of tires? I mean he is getting older and is very injury prone. Is getting Crawford for the long run and Chipper for the next few seasons worth losing Howard who I believe is one of the best young power hitters in baseball. That's a tough question but I would probably do it if I had this offer on the table.

Thanks again for the help on mine.

Who would you slide in @ 1B? Not a bad offer, but I am a huge Braves Fan, and Chipper gets hurt too much. You already have a nice OF...I don't think I'd do it. Not in H2H.

I think it is a very fair trade, so I don't mind the trade, but I would offer a few points. Chipper is injury prone, but I think the most important thing about him this year is that teams are starting to pitch around him at all costs. The Braves have only produced with 2 outs this year. Kelly Johnson has a terrible OBS. Yunel isn't getting on base enough, so Chipper has not had many opportunities to drive runners in. Crawford is killing it with speed all of a sudden. Do you really need Ellsbury and Crawford. This will really give you a speed advantage over any other owner. Losing Howard's power (HR's) is critical for you. Braun is a little injured but will give you 30 hr's... but, does Bay give you enough HR's? Chipper won't. Tulowitski won't. Utley will give you 30. I guess my point is.. does gaining Crawford's speed compensate for losing Howard's power?

I think the RP's are a wash.

Other big question is... who plays 1B?
