Drop Ian Stewart for Garrett Atkins? WHIR

Postby sarthaz » Mon May 04, 2009 6:59 pm

Daily points league, bonus for SB.

Atkins (1B,3B) was dropped by someone who is starting Helton and Lowell. Right now, I have Stewart (2B,3B) playing 3B, but when A-Rod comes off the DL, Stewart will ride my bench, since I have Alexei Ramirez at 2B. I have Berkman at 1B, though, so Atkins is also bench material.

As a likely 2-position backup player, who would you rather have: Ian Stewart (2B,3B) or Garrett Atkins (1B,3B)? Leave a link, and I'll return the favor. Thanks!

The way Alexi has been playing so far, and the fact that we don't know how well ARoid will play when he comes back, I would actually keep Ian Stewart.

help with mine?

Definitely pick up Atkins. This is an easy question, imo. Stewart isn't a full-time player and probably shouldn't ever play ahead of Alexi. You could always swing Atkins later once he gets hot.

no one notices Alexis .210 average, .258 OBP, 1hr, true Stewart is hitting .231 but is getting on base , .349 OBP and has more homers (3), plus Clint Hurdle is finding playing time for Stewart at 2B/3B/OF, and the rockies are looking to trade Atkins so Atkins numbers will decrease dramatically when traded (see how Holliday is hitting in Oakland)

Tex is also hitting around .180, but I would not drop him for Ian Stewart

Yeah but Alexi is notorious for not taking a base, so his hitting IMO was expected to happen

he is starting come around although I was not as high on him as most people... that being said Atkins has too much of a track record to ignore and must be picked up in this situation

This is what concerns me. Hurdle is doing everything possible to get Stewart into games, and he only needs 2 more starts at OF to qualify there too. But if they don't trade Atkins, he's good for a ton of points. It would make this easier if Helton would just hurt his back. :) Alexei is struggling, but he'll have to fall off the map for me to give up on him since I just moved Sandoval to bring him into my team. I do have Rickie Weeks as a backup 2B, but when A-Rod and Big Mac return, he'll have to go to make room. There's no room on my team for a 2B-only player who rides the bench.
