Haren - A Gonz trade.

Postby Lsquad » Mon May 04, 2009 8:36 am

I just had this deal proposed to me, and I'm pretty tempted by it. MY staff is stacked to the point where I'm not using pitchers (I'm sitting Vazquez and hernandez today due to bad matchups and the fact that I'm starting 4 SPs already. L's, BBs, and HRs count against pitchers, meaning that using too many can screw you up. H's, K's, and Total bases are the extra stats for hitters.

I get: A gonz
I give: Haren, Vazquez

My roster: h2h 10 teams
C: Baker
1b: prince
2b: utley
3b: Beltre
ss: hanley
of: rios
of: granderson
of: swisher
util: ellsbury
util: bruce
bn: tulowitzki
bn: wieters
DL: Arod

SP: haren
sp: billingsley
rp: gonzalez
rp: sherrill
p: greinke
p: kazmir
p: vazquez
bn: hernadez
bn: hughes

Am I giving up too much, or is this a must take deal? its a shallow league, so theres some pitching availible on the wire ( I just dropped harang last week to grab hughes, for example. thanks for your advice, leave a link.

Hmmm... I countered with just Haren for Gonzalez, it was accepted and instantly vetoed. Is that even remotely vetoable?

How could that be vetoed? It's a perfectly fair deal, top tier pitcher for a top tier hitter, that is totally bogus and I would love to know the exact reason it was vetoed?

There's no way that should be vetoed, it's pretty fair. I'm not sure I'd do it if I were you, though. Your hitting seems fine, why risk that by trading Haren?

I would rather have A Gonzalez, but this trade should not have been vetoed, even in a veto happy league.

Is this a vote veto league or a commissioner veto league?

One thing I have tried (and failed) to implement in leagues that vote on vetoes is to make the vote the following:

(1) Is this trade an unfair trade?
(2) Which team gets the unfair advantage?

Unless Question 2 is answered the same way by more than half the teams in the league, it doesn't get vetoed, even if Question 1 is answered as vetoable. Just a rant from someone who's played in too many leagues that has teams that will veto all trades that they are not involved with.

I'll always take the elite hitter over the elite pitcher but can't see why this could get vetoed.

What else I don't understand is why you dropped Haren at all, at any point and then got him back. Insanity.

Post ww Pitchers (you don't have a ton of pitchers IMO). You need a true ace. You have some solid guys but lack a true ace. Plus Sherrill sucks grab something else.

Sorry, I didn't drop Haren. I dropped Harang. my bad. I've already dropped sherrill (for Gregg). I'm not sure about your assesment of my staff though. Bills, haren, and Greinke seem like pretty acceptible staff aces to me. seven top twenty pitchers is pretty good, and allows me to play the matchups, since I couldn't use all of them anyway, without punting walks, HRs, and Ls. there's a real point of diminishing return on pitching in this league.

Best pitchers availible are WaRod, Harang, RJohnson, Myers, Maine, Wakefield, and Zack Duke (?)
