I need to pick up a guy that can get me some saves. All of the closers with jobs are taken, so I am willing to get a guy and wait for him to be handed the job. I've narrowed my choices to Jason Motte and Joel Zumaya.
Last week, I picked up Juan Cruz since Soria was nicked and Cruz rewarded me with a save, but Soria is back now. Now it is time to dump him and get somebody else.
The question is simple. Which of these two guys (Motte and Zumaya) is most likely to become a closer first and which is most likely to keep the job?
Really like Zumaya, he was hitting 99 on the gun the other night. Still hasn't allowed a run. I think he will have the job by the allstar break. As for the cards, I think eventually Perez will be the closer, not Motte.

Zumaya over Motte. But not because he will have the closers job soon after the ASB. He may not get it at all this year if Rodney continues pitching the way he has. Zoom will get some token saves but I really doubt he takes over the cosers job in Detroit unless Rodney flat out bombs. If you had asked me if Rodney would keep the job after the first start I would have said no way.
Zumaya... don't know if I see him in the role permanently (he's blown 81% of his save opportunities), but he will be a good source of holds, and should provide good ratios. Motte had an opportunity as closer, and really did not take it. Franklin looks great and was a serviceable closer last year. Rodney could implode at any minute, as made apparent last year.. so I gotta think that Zumaya is the better option.
