Need to start 2 of these guys

Postby Hogger1 » Sun May 03, 2009 9:17 am

Between my 1B position and my Util spot I have to choose between.... (all teams play everyday this week)

Paul Konerko - Hitting pretty good right now, have him in my first base slot @KC/Det/Tex
Derek Lee - Hasn't been great and was hurting earlier this week, but he did hit a HR yesterday SF/@Hou/@Mil
Shin-Soo Choo - Has a great name and has been steady, but not great @Tor/@Bos/Det
Andrew Jones - not playing every day, but has been productive @Sea/@Oak/@CWS (no home games, forget him)
Jose Lopez - I put Weeks in for him for the upcoming week, but could still play him Tex/@KC/@Min
Kendry Morales - One of the hotter players right now @Oak/Tor/KC

I'd go with Konerko and Lee because they are the best players out of that group. With position players I tend to always play the best player based on the whole season and not try to guess who will do better in a particular week.

Going with the best player based on the whole season is probably good advice.

But is Derek Lee still that player?

I think he is. He is definitely not a .200 hitter like he showed in April, but he is getting up there in age, so his production will continue to decline. He should still get around 20HR and post a decent AVG when all is said and done.

Konerko, Lee and Choo are all pretty close IMO. If you are uncomfortable with Lee, play Choo instead of him for this week and see how Lee does. I have no problem rotating those three guys, although I think Lee and Konerko will both finish with better numbers than Choo. Choo has upside over the other two and he was batting cleanup last time I checked. What I'm not crazy about is to second guessing proven players and taking them out of the lineup for guys like Andruw Jones and Kendry Morales.

Lee has struggled horribly. I'd pick Choo as the class of that group. He can score in every category. I'd pick Konerko second.
