WOOD for SLOWEY ??? whir

Postby jermhorse » Sun May 03, 2009 1:08 am

Im in an AL only roto, 7x7.
I have Jenks, BJ ryan , and Kerry Wood. and not much SPing.

I was offered Wood for Slowey straight up from our last place owner.

My question is do you think that Slowey is going to break out this year and also do you think Ryan and Jenks can cover in saves. ( when Ryan comes off DL) So should I pull the trigger and put Slowey on my roster?

thanks

In an AL only you should be fine with 2 closers, assuming BJ comes back fine. Slowey's a much better pitcher than what he's shown so far and with that being a need of yours I'd made the trade.

Agree. Slowey will be solid this year. And in AL only, 2 closers should keep you very competitive. BJ's health is the only concern.

agreed BJ's health is the concern here - but Slowey for Wood is a deal I would take based on value
5x5 H2H, NK 10 teams
C- JP
1B- Voto
2B- Zobri
3B- ARam
SS- Rolins
OF- J. Uptn, Choo, A. Gordn
UTIL- Fielder
BN- C. Crawfrd
SP- Hamls, Bumgarner, Galardo, I. Kenedy, Fister, Kurda, Minr, Dempstr, Burnet, Ogando
RP- Cishek, Veras, Parnel

I'm not as sold on Ryan coming back and being the man. But, Slowey is a sweet pitcher to own. UNDERRATED!!!!!

Only 3 HR and a .143 ISO from a first baseman in 118 AAA PA so far? Nice AVG but he's looking an awful lot like James Loney right now.

In AL only, 2 closers is enough, although Ryan makes me nervous. In this case, i dont think you can pass up slowey, especially if your SP is a bit weak. Do the deal, but keep an eye on Ryan's health and always keep reading the closer thread in the baseball leftovers forum. :)

Thanks for the help on mine.

I would not do this, Scott Downs is Toronto's closer, Ryan won't get his job back IMO. stay put

I don't think you should count on Ryan closing when he gets back. There's a good shot, maybe 60/40 that he does, but no guarantee. He's looked an absolute mess so far, and Downs is untouchable.
