Got this offer. I get Ham, he gets Abreu. It sounds like a good deal down the stretch, but Abreu is basically carrying my team right now and Hamilton will just be on my bench.

I would hold Abreu for the same reason you mentioned. HE's holding your team together. Hamilton is a stud but he is a young and unreliable stud. I personally would pass on this trade because of Abreu is not going to let you down. Especially with Hamilton going on DL. I would wait till he gets back and has a good week before considering letting go of Abreu. Dont worry, Hamilton will still be available.

I'm less concerned about his lack of HRs. I'm just wondering if he'll be able to hit for average and steal consistantly. Although recent reports say that his back's been tight and he may cut back on the steals...

Abreu will hit for average (290-300) and should steal about 30.

I was studying the stats and I think I may keep Abreu. He's very consistant before and after the All-Star break. He strikes out less, and can maintain a .280avg.
Hamilton had a freak first half last year and really tapered off in the second half. He was very average in fact.

Only 3 HR and a .143 ISO from a first baseman in 118 AAA PA so far? Nice AVG but he's looking an awful lot like James Loney right now.
