Trade Mauer or Bengie

Postby Leesville Sluggers » Sat May 02, 2009 3:41 pm

I had Mauer stashed on the DL for the past couple of weeks, with Bengie Molina starting. Now that Mauer is back, i need to activate him. Our league only starts one catcher, so i dont really need two catchers on my roster really. Im not sure either one is good enough offensively to have in the Utility spot, so i need to trade one of them off. I would assume that Mauer is most valuable, even though Bengie has had a pretty good year so far. Assuming i would be trading to a team with a weaker catcher, what can of return should i look for these guys? The league is 10 team, 5x5 mixed roto. Roster below, and thanks/WHIR.

C- B. Molina
1B- A. Gonzalez
2B- Utley
SS- Rollins
3B- Zimmerman
OF- M. Ramirez, C. Crawford, Granderson,
Util- Cantu
BN- Adam Jones, J Upton
SP- Haren, Beckett, Billingsley, Vazquez, Garza, Price
RP- Jenks, Cordero, Bell, Rodney
DL- Mauer, Smoltz

if it were me, i'd definitely try to shop mauer, see what i could get in return. when he's healthy, mauer is great, but he's such an injury risk it makes him overrated. people will pay for him. bengie is pretty consistent and underrated so you won't get much in return for him. wouldn't hurt to try to shop bengie, too.

I Would stay with Benjie. He will never steal a base for you but who's perfect? But you ask about value. I would say some one like a Victorino, Dunn, or Alexie Ramirez type player. I think you will be able to get more value from a Mauer trade. Try and find a player that has strength where you need because I dont think you are going to get anyone like Hanely or Pujols. I do know that some people fall in love with certain catchers because it is a hard positon to fill . Try and maximize that angle.

Thanks for the help so far. Here is the roster for one of the teams with a weak catching position:

C- Shoppach
1B- Youkilis
2B- Derosa
3B- Longoria
SS- Furcal
OF- Lind
OF- Sizemore
OF- Dye
UT- C. Young
BN- Wells, Duncan, Alexei Ramirez
SP- Main, Guthrie, R. Johnson, Hamels, Kazmir, Jiminez
RP- Lidge, Wilson

Obviously, longoria has me drooling...what would it take to get him, Mauer + who else? Im guessing Mauer and Zimm wouldnt be enough? Should i buy low on Alexei, is he going to heat up soon? Thanks for any trade suggestions.
