Cantu/Bedard/Broxton for Bay/Valverde?(WHIR)

Postby kidsilk on Fri May 01, 2009 11:20 pm

Mixed, H2H 8x8 cat league, with 10 teams, only 18 man rosters, redraft. I am currently in 9th place and struggling. Cantu would be an upgrade at 3B, Broxton at RP, and Bedard at SP for now until Beckett gets it together. Is this enough to give up Bay and Valverde?

My Team:

C-Posada
1B-Teix
2B-Utley
3B-Lowell
SS-Theriot
LF-Bay
CF-Ellsbury
RF-Bruce
UTI-AGon
UTI-Votto
DL-S. Drew

SP-Lincecum
SP-Beckett
SP-Wainwright
RP-Valverde
RP-Soria
P-Ziegler
BN-Danks
BN-Ryan

What do you guys think? Should I do this deal?

I don't like the trade. Personally, I do not see Cantu being an upgrade over Lowell at 3B. Lowell is one of the top RBI guys in the bigs right now and if he's healthy, and sometimes thats a big if, he will be a HUGE RBI guy. Broxton is an upgrade over Valverde... better team, better stuff, better supporting cast. I like Bedard, but I have not kept up with him this year. Valverde is solid when healthy. Bay has been a monster so far. It seems like if the Sox only score 2 runs, it's from a Bay HR. Also, who would play LF for you...? I say keep what you have. I like your lineup a lot. Just be patient for Ellsbury to start stealing more bases. Utley and Bruce will come around. Lincecum got off to a bit of a slow start but he was dominant in his last outing. Just be patient.

I don't think upgrading 3B is the biggest of your concerns and I'd rather have the Bay side, value-wise. You could use another starting pitcher though, but this isn't the deal for you.

I would go after Broxton, but as stated who would replace bay, IMO I would keep Bay, maybe do Valverde and Votto for Broxton/Cantu that way when Lowell Gets Hurt you can move canto from the Util spot to 3B.

help with mine?

Bay is on fire right now and I think you can get a lot more in return. I understand Cantu has been looking good but, I don't know, I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I wouldn't make that trade. Cantu is not an upgrade, IMO and I'm not sure he'll keep it going. I think you have a solid line-up. Beckett will turn it around so I wouldn't panic and give up Bay to get another starter who is an injury risk. The Sox line up is going to score a whole bunch of runs this year and Bay is going to be a huge part of that.

Can you post the other owners roster? Perhaps you can offer a counter.
