Brett Cecil called up?

Postby GiantsFan14 » Thu Apr 30, 2009 8:59 pm

not the most reputable source but a guy on another forum who seems to know Brett personally says he's been called up and will pitch next tuesday. take it with a grain of salt, but you may want to grab him now if he's available. (he's not in the yahoo database yet though)

Cecil just got called up, pitching Tuesday... his sister texted me, so I confirmed it with him

with the way the jays pitching staff has been decimated , it seems pretty legit.

Would make sense since they just sent Burres down to the minors.

He's probably worth a high waiver claim if he does get the call. Yahoo added all of the obvious uber prospects so there isn't as much reason to hold onto it, especially when Ozzie when Beckham down in the minors all year.

I'm not sure I'd go gaga over Cecil right now, as he's been really struggling in the minors.

I don't know if I'd need him. It would make for a fairly deep staff:

Gallardo, Greinke, C. Young, Pelfrey, E. Jackson, Harang with Weaver, Cahill and Webb on my bench for now.

I'm also #1 or #2 in all 5 pitching cats.

No offense, but looking to brag/whatever has no place in this thread. He's simply helping us out by saying that a pretty highly regarded prospect is coming up, he did not say every person who checks the cafe should pick him up, nor did he say Saltydog let me see your whole pitching staff and if you are not in the top 2 in all 5 pitching cats you need to pick him up...

Sorry if that came off as very harsh, but your post was just unprovoked bragging out of nowhere.

Yeah, I wouldn't burn a ww pick on him. He's a solid pitcher but I think it will be another year or 2 before he starts to put things together. He was a closer in college and only threw about 120IP last year so not only are his innings going to be limited but I'm not sure how good he'll be 2 and 3 times through the order at this point in his career. He has 185IP in his minor league career that comes from 45 games started....barely over 4IP per start. Also, not only has he struggled this year but he wasn't that great in AAA last year either.

With that said if you want to spot start him, definately do it against lefty heavy lineups as he has a nice slider that should be quite difficult to handle as a lefty hitter.
