Who is the next ryan braun?

Postby healyja » Thu Apr 30, 2009 1:21 am

I remember picking up braun a few years ago right when he came up, and he put my team over the top and carried me to the finals. I was wondering what players would be worthy of a roster spot, in the event they get called up and do work. I understand this is a very hard question to answer, but with my team slumping hard right now( Matt Holliday,JJ Hardy, Ortiz, Vlad(DL)) I am willing to take a shot on one of these youngsters.

I understand Laporta is doing very well, but I was wondering if you guys had heard some other names flying around.
I also looked at AAA stats real quick and saw Matt Gamel 7 hr , 26 rbi, 394avg.

Laporta, Gamel and Pedro Alvarez of PIT are talked about as the next Braun.

Obviously Weiters is the man to get if he's available. Otherwise I'd say LaPorta, Gamel will probably be up at some point this year.

Beckham could also provide good value at SS if he is called up to the Sox this season.

Would be nice if Ryan Braun was the next Ryan Braun!

What don't you understand?

Yes, the question was phrased wrong, but I'm confident everyone knows what he meant. Will there be a player to make an impact this season as a rookie by posting similar numbers to that of Braun in his rookie year?

OP - in answer to your question I think Wieters and LaPorta will have a good year, but I doubt they'll have the same impact Braun did...

Definitely a poorly worded question. Understand this, what Braun did as a rookie was without precedent. Some rookies will come up and give you good value initially but taper off as scouting reports make their rounds (Jay Bruce).
