Talk about a strawman. I never said that. I specifically said that they do not want to move him out of the rotation, but that they almost certainly have considered the possibility of eventually having to move him to the pen this year. I'm pretty sure that is not the case for Beckett, Dice-K and Lester. Seems like you think he is absolutely won't go to the pen, or if he does, it will be a huge shock. I totally disagree with that view.
Apologies... I went back and read your comment on Wakefield and I had mis-read what you were saying as the Sox were planning to put Wake back in the pen this year.

The Red Sox have noted several times over the past years that they won't move Wakefield to the bullpen.

Well they shut down Smoltz but they are not saying anything about an injury. They have a lot of options but almost all of them are injury risks at this point so anything can happen.

Lopez is a league-average LOOGY. But yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing the Red Sox get rid of him, just because Hunter Jones has looked really good, and Tito hasn't been using Lopez in true "LOOGY" situations (or at least it doesn't seem he has). In close games he uses Okie, Ramon Ramirez, and sometimes Saito.....
with Saito and Ram Ram as viable 7th and 8th inning alternatives, Tito can use Oki as his LOOGY specialist with Jones around just in case, and give Lopez the boot. I wouldn't miss him neither.
