Hafner to the DL

Postby arkk21 » Wed Apr 29, 2009 5:39 pm

Indians placed designated hitter Travis Hafner on the 15-day disabled list with soreness in his right shoulder.
It's somewhat disconcerting that Hafner is reportedly headed for a visit with Dr. James Andrews, but manager Eric Wedge told MLB.com that "We don't think it's anything serious" and added, "Hopefully it's just a two-week thing." The Indians have called up Rich Rundles to take Hafner's place, but are expected to add a hitter prior to Friday's game. Possible options to join the team include David Dellucci (currently rehabbing in Columbus) and Matt LaPorta, who's hitting a scalding .368 at Triple-A.

Re: Hafner to the DL (GRAB LAPORTA)

Now would be a fabulous time to give LaPorta a whirl.

Hes got nothing left to prove at AAA.

Im adding him in my 12 team mixed league on spec. If he gets called up, your ahead of the game, if not - there is no logic to think that Delucci is better suited to help the Tribe with the bat...

Again, my opinion - but be a prudent pro-active owner and snag him...

There is another thread on LaPorta. I'm praying and hoping he gets the call but the history of Wedge and the GM say it will be Dellucci or some stiff like that. :-t

Cleveland homer...

I just picked him up off the wavier - the hope is soreness, as this is something that they are being very cautious as it really is a two year problem. Early on he has looked good - hard swings - still huge but slimmed down considerably. Would note that I have seen stretch/loosen the shoulder between swings and it looked awkard. Yet then he went out and hit a couple of HR's in the next two games...

My thoughts is the picture will be much clearer in two weeks - I can wait on the upside and stash him on the DL for now. Lingering = cut bait

I picked up LaPorta as the first overall pick in my keeper leagues minor league draft (3 year keeper rules), and was mocked over other prospects (btw I grabbed Wieters and price in the auction portion, but traded wieters for Grienke lol), a lot of other people picked players still in rookie/A ball this season, I wanted prospects who were ready to almost contribute. I hope LaPorta gets called up and stays for good, but that may required trading away somebody, Garko anybody?

LaPorta could get called up but, for now, Dellucci gets the call.
