Floundering in hitting cats...

Postby Gnu314 » Wed Apr 29, 2009 10:53 am

So I'm in a 10 team 5x5 Roto. I'm in first place currently but my hitting numbers are very sub par at 4, 4, 6, 4.5, 9.5. My run, HR, and RBI totals are competitive but nowhere close to the leader. If I could get up to 7s and 8s I would be happy. My pitching is insanely dominant posting 10, 10, 10, 9, 9... I'm expecting these numbers to drop over time and I'll drop out of 1st.

What, if anything, should I do with this team. The slow starts from Upton (regretted from the beginning), Holliday, and Hamels have really hurt my team. Hamels will be fine, hes showing flashes of being good beyond his bad luck. Holliday and Upton look lost right now... and barring a trade I don't know how Holliday can fix that.

Hey I personally think that your team will be fine.

Its only the 3rd week of the season these guys will turn it around for sure.

I think you are solid in every position, aside from maybe catcher and short stop, but the rest of your hitters should make up for it.

I'd sit tight for a few more weeks before trading the farm away.

Good Luck

Seems like you have enough depth at SP to trade someone and not miss them. A SP and a position player for an upgraded position player might turn out well for you.

You will do better when Peralta starts hitting the long ball and what not. 0 HR outta your SS positioin hurts along with Holliday. You just have to be patient. You have nice speed with Upton/Roberts/Fowler.

Upton should start hitting homers soon. But you'll take his speed.

What big bats are in fa? There aren't a ton of power hitting SS out there (at least that are producing anyway, so don't feel bad there).

When Drew comes back he'll help a bit. He'll hit you 20 homers when healthy.
The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!

FA is pretty grim...

Currently of relevance...
Konerko (no)
Adam LaRoche
Rickie Weeks (jerk, also no)
Mark Reynolds
Halfner
Mike Jacobs
Kubel

So basically there is nothing that I would even consider picking up. There are no SS on the wire better than Peralta and Drew... both of which "should be fine".

I'm hoping Fowler can keep it up. He has the peripherals and minor league numbers that indicate that he has the talent to do so. Upton is beyond frustrating at the moment.

1) Drop or trade one of your closers and pick up either Reynolds or Hafner, they're both worth a roster spot and will give you a boost in power.
2) See if any team has two decent SS options and try to work a trade: one of hteir SS's for one of your SPers (Maybe Wainwright or Lilly).

Those are two options. I'm not sure I'd do anything, though...April doesn't make or break a season, just ask Ryan Howard (the '08 version).
