I have this guy in 2 of my 3 leagues and I am worried about his last 2 outings. He doesn't over power people, he is tied for K/BB at 12 a piece and his ERA is beginning to rise.

1st league: Should I drop Maholm for Jordan Zimmerman?

2nd league: Tulowitzki is killing me, I want to drop Maholm, throw C. Guzman on the DL and add Theriot

Thanks, leave a link... ;-D

1st league: yes, you have the depth and don't need as many SPers on the active roster, you can afford to roll the dice on Zimmerman and the upside on Maholm isn't that great--he can go low in ERA and WHIP but he doesn't get the K numbers or W's of elite SPers and never will.

2nd league: same thing, you have a deep enough staff and Cueto is your 'flier' SPer who can potentially bust out. Maholm won't crack that rotation, not with Volquez and JJ sitting on the bench as well. Do what you need to at SS for the time being.

I have Maholm in a few leagues but they're much deeper at SPer so you need those back-end type starters who you can sort of rely on for decent outings every time out. But in a thinner league like the one's you're in a guy like him isn't really necessary.

Any help here?

Tulo is a must bench and probably a cut in my opinion. Christian Guzman is good for average and that is about it. The Nats moved another average guy with some power in Nick Johnson into the two spot so maybe he will score a few more runs than originally projected; but even with Guzman's limits, I would try to start him for now. If Theriot is available, I would grab him and drop Tulo.

Regarding Maholm, it is too early to tell. I have him in a head to head league and his last start was a dagger.
His three full years of stats are below and last year he had 3.71 ERA and 139ks. He was a first rounder in 2003 and has been highly touted his entire career. Did he put it together last year and is he continuing it this year? HIs first three starts said yes, his last two say no. My thoughts on him are to let him start at least two more games for your team. If there is a clear indication that is bad, drop him, if there is a mixed bag or great results, keep him. I am using him as a fifth starter and if he can keep his ERA under 4.0 for the season and get some wins he will do his job for my team. RIght now I don't have enough info to make a good decision yet.
