I havent heard anything specific on when he might be due back, beyond the initial "month, probably a good bit longer." I'm holding him at the moment, but with only one DL spot, slim benches, and most of my team dinged up, he is costing me starts/atbats.
Do people think he will make it back in time to be a solid contributor this season? (Baring additional injuries) Should I try to get some value for him, whatever I can?
Waiver options would include Zach Duke, Jordan Zimmerman, and Smoltz (who may be back before Carp at this point).

I have Carpenter in my one DL spot as well. I've been lucky with injuries so far, so I haven't felt a lot of pressure to do something with him. Carp was fantastic all spring and in his first start as I'm sure you know, and his current injury isn't arm related. I could see him being a real difference maker from June on, if he avoids further injury. But if his taking up that DL spot is killing you, it's probably not worth so much pain on the gamble he pays off. If you are only dealing with very short term injury situations, I'd try to ride it out and find a way to hold him. If you've got a star on the DL, I'd probably cut Carp at that point.
