The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Reds will place Edwin Encarnacion on the disabled list after an MRI exam on his sore wrist revealed a chip fracture.

Jerry Hairston Jr. is playing third base tonight with Darnell McDonald in left field, and Adam Morales is expected to be called up from Triple-A to fill Encarnacion's roster spot. Manager Dusty Baker said just hours ago that the soreness wouldn't require a DL stint, but Encarnacion has struggled all month.

Reds placed third baseman Edwin Encarnacion on the 15-day disabled list with a crip fracture in his wrist.

Jerry Hairston Jr. is playing third base tonight, but the Reds should use this excuse to give Adam Rosales a look at the position. Encarnacion hasn't hit at all this season and he's a liability on defense, so the injury will help the Reds for the short-term. They will need Encarnacion's bat for the long haul, though.

Yahoo already has him as DL? Nice - they have done a great job about being quicker with the status updates they even beat ESPN on that one!
