So I'm a bit of a news junkie, and just curious where people find out their information and what they think, generally, of the different medias.
My take on the different ones: NY Times: Pretty good. Worth checking to see if they have any exclusive articles or op-ed's.
Washington Post: Probably my go-to for news in general. It has the best political coverage that I've found and is decent on global issues.
LA Times: Somewhat interesting, but too emphasized on the entertainment industry to check into more than every once in a while.
Chicago Tribune: Read it when I lived in Chicago, haven't done so for years.
WSJ: Had home delivery for a year; started reading it online in the past couple of weeks. Very good news source; amateur-level editorial writers.
CNN: Broadcast channel, meh, ok. Website: It seems even more entertainment-oriented than the LA Times. Half of their material seems to be IReporters or polls or other crap.... if I wanted to know what Myrtle from Iowa thought, I'd search out her blog. I thought you guys were a news source.
Fox News: Sensationalizing. If P. T. Barnum and Darth Vader got together to form a news network, Fox News would be it.
MSNBC: A peg above Fox. I respect Chris Matthews; Keith Olbermann has more integrity than the Fox News guys, but he's playing the same show. Their website content is between the LA Times and CNN. It's like once every 4-5 visits, you see something interesting, but for the most part, not worth the bother.
Social News Site: Can yield interesting stories on policy, but also can suck you into half an hour of complete time-wastes.
Other: I like Slate. I don't go much for the alternative news outlets out there (alternet, HuffingtonPost, RedState, etc.). I read the UK Guardian. There's a blog that I've been reading lately called marginalrevolution.com which is quite good on economic issues. And that's probably about it. Oh, and I read the NY Post when I'm taking the subway into Manhattan and the Yankees have lost, otherwise I pick up the NY Metro.
What say ye? Is there a good source of journalism and info that I'm missing?
0-3 to 4-3. Worst choke in the history of baseball. Enough said.
for me it's a mix of the Detroit Free Press, MSN homepage, Entertainment Weekly and The Cafe. i figure if it's important enough to know i'll find it at one of those outlets
Sometimes I read the L.A. Times, but I'd rather support my local paper these days instead. I read it more or less for the sports section without having to skim through Bill Plaschke's column. Very rarely do I read other out-of-town papers or USA Today.
I don't buy the local paper (Melbourne's Herald Sun or Bendigo Advertiser) because they both suck.
Sky News is BY FAR the best news (compared to the free stations which are just a joke)
We get a few New Zealand news shows a week, and the way NZ sorts and presents their news pwns anything Australia can do.
I don't watch any of the American news channels that we get because they are too politically emphasised and after about 3 minutes you've seen all their bull.
The closest I would get to regular "news" would be The Daily Show or The Soup .

I go to Google as I like to read what the local news sites are reporting as they tend to be more accurate with their info and better sources. Plus the local news update things faster.
I also like the Economist. I find them to be much more fair than a lot of the other giant news companies.

I get my news by messenger pigeon, I'm old school.
Seriously though, I get 90% of my news from various sites on the web. I also read the local paper here in Oregon Fri, Sat, and Sunday. And I'll catch random news on the tube to as I'm changing channels if something looks interesting but I don't watch any news channel with any regularity.
