Drop Thome for WW goodies?

5x5 non-keeper league. (9 teams)

I have Thome at utility. Ortiz got dropped after his slow start, and C. Davis has somehow made it through waivers. Whichever I take would be playing in the Util spot, since I have fairly strong 1B/3B/CI, but I gotta make one of these moves right? Thome is 30 HR, but that average hurts. Which? (Note small benches, so Davis's position eligibility might be a plus, but a resurgent Papi...).

Any chance Davis would pick up a couple steals? Might lean me in that direction... my team isn't running at all. (Im lookin at you jimmy!!!!)

My Team:
Batting
C Yadier Molina
1B Adrián González
2B Chase Utley
3B Aramis Ramírez
SS Jimmy Rollins
CI Carlos Delgado
MI Ian Stewart
OF Nelson Cruz
OF Daniel Murphy
OF Adam Jones
OF Milton Bradley
OF Coco Crisp
Util Jim Thome
BN Matt Holliday
BN Matt Wieters
DL Álex Rodríguez

Pitching
SP Josh Beckett
SP Rich Harden
SP Carlos Zambrano
RP Jonathan Broxton
RP Matt Capps
RP Frank Francisco
P Brandon Morrow
P A.J. Burnett
P Yovani Gallardo
BN Chris Carpenter

I would pick up Davis for Thome, but I think you need to look to pick up some sb guys through the wire which should be out there in a 9 team league, or look to make a trade. Even when Rollins turns it around, it's not going to be nearly enough to compete in the category...

Thanks for the advice, Ive been thinking I agree. Papi might turn in slightly better numbers, but with this many starters, (for me) functionally only one bench spot, the flexibility is a real bonus.

(FYI, I plan on using A-Ram, health permitting, to buy some steals when A-Rod comes back.)

I agree here. Though you could get 20sbs from both of Holliday and Crisp, as well as 10-15 from Cruz. Aram could be a good sell for some more SBs, as Crisp is barely rosterable in a 9 teamer.

I'd drop Coco for Ortiz and Thome for Davis. Just concentrate on grabbing the best players available, and THEN worry about trading for steals.

I agree here ... grab the talent in these two and then be smart about the steals later with a targeted deal.
