35k through 21 innings as a SP. 15k/9
That's gotta be up there as highest k/9 to start a season. (as a starter)

You might want to make sure it's a reputable source. I'm fairly certain Cole did it at least a few times...

No, what I'm saying is I don't remember seeing a Starter have a 15k/9ip average in the first month of the season, not in a single game.

based on his game log, Cole Hamels has never had 35 K's through his first 21 innings of a season.

I made a bet in 2003 that the Devil Rays would win the 2008 World Series. Oh so close.

My point is I think we'll be hard-pressed to find anyone who has in at least the past decade.

Small sample size.

Look at how Randy Johnson started the 2001 season. Not quite 15k/9 but he had a rate of over 13.7k/9(if i did my math right, 104 k for 68.2 ip) for the first month and a half, 9 starts. He also went 7+ innings in all of them but 1.

Yea I know it's a small sample, but I just like when I see things that practically never happen, happen.
It's clearly difficult to come out hard on the K immediately and consistently at the beginning of the season, so hats off to Harden for a great April, he'll get one more start to finish it off, probably a 6ip 10k performance! That'd be 45 in 27ip. Nice.
