Postby mac-unit » Sun Apr 26, 2009 11:48 pm

I really want McCutchen and with McLouth having a possible DL stint I think his time is about to come. I want to get him before he comes up. I will still have Francisco so I have a chance in saves week in and week out.

Keeper 20 Team H2H 6x6(OBP and HLD). We kept 6 this past year. We keep 12 the end of this year.

C Víctor Martinez
1B James Loney
2B Chris Getz
3B Adrian Beltre
SS Derek Jeter
OF Grady Sizemore
OF Nick Markakis
OF Nyjer Morgan
Util Josh Anderson
BN Skip Schumaker
BN Lastings Milledge

P CC Sabathia
P Frank Francisco
P Joel Hanrahan
P Juan Cruz
P John Grabow
P John Lannan
P Bartolo Colon
P Mark DiFelice
P Sean Green
BN Derek Lowe
BN James McDonald
BN Kyle Lohse
BN Edwin Jackson
BN Tommy Hanson
DL Dontrelle Willis
DL Ryan Rowland-Smith
DL Kelvim Escobar

I personally wouldnt do it because you are gambling on McCutcheon coming up and...

1. Playing every day.
2. Playing well
3. Sticking with the team and playing everyday when McLouth gets back.

And you are also gambling that McLouth even goes on the DL and McCutcheon gets the call. Right now McLouth is listed as day to day, according to Rotoworld.

So I personally wouldnt do it. I like young players as much as anyone but they are a gamble, and in my own experience things dont work out as we expect them to in the short run. Most of the time, it takes a while for opportunity + results to occur with a young player.

Hanrahan isnt a world beater but he has value in that he is a closer. So unless you are rebuilding for the future and giving up on this season already, I'd avoid this crapshoot.

IMO, you have other candidates to drop for McCutchen. Pick up McCutchen? yes ... Drop Hanrahan? no.

Yeah I just think when he is up he won't go back down, could mean he takes over in right since I don't see how Moss stays there past June since McCutchen already has nothing else to prove down in AAA and if the Pirates can stay in the top half of the central you can't tell me McCutchen doesn't improve their team.

My fault :-B

So, I think it would depend on who you have in mind to select as keepers if the season ended right now; how many keepers you think you'll select that are "locked in"?

I'd say do not do the trade if you do not think McCutchen could make your top 12 regardless of his performance this season.
What Hanrahan has going against him is his shaky status as closer for a poor Nationals squad.

Thanks for your reply in my post.

If you are that sure about this happening, and that McCutcheon will perform better than your other candidates for that spot, then do the deal.

Right now I think my sure keepers will be
1 Víctor Martinez
2 James Loney
3 Grady Sizemore
4 Nick Markakis
5 CC Sabathia
6 Tommy Hanson(baring injury or horrendous MLB numbers)

Probably
7 Derek Jeter
8 Derek Lowe

Then the maybes
Edwin Jackson(He's young and I think he will put up good #'s)
Chris Getz(If it looks like he will have a starting job and put up decent numbers all year)
Adrian Beltre(depends where he signs)
Nyjer Morgan(Same as Getz)
Josh Anderson(Same as Getz)
Frank Francisco(probably not since I hate keeping closers)

Then the could be if they have an amazing finish
Dontrelle Willis
James McDonald
John Lannan
Kelvim Escobar

If I got him he would have a better chance of being kept then Hanrahan.

I think I'm gonna sleep on it, hopefully if McLouth lands on the DL it isn't before tomorrow night.
