Gomez, Maybin, Winn or Anderson?

Postby TheMadHungarian » Sun Apr 26, 2009 2:10 pm

I'm currently rostering Carlos Gomez in my 12 team 6X6 (OBP) H2H Keeper league. Cameron Maybin, Josh Anderson and Randy Winn are available. Who do you think's the best of this bunch?

I had high hopes for Gomez after reading a lot about how he'd bulked up a bit and worked on his patience, suggesting that he was looking to become a more powerful, complete hitter. So far, so bad for Carlos... Cameron Maybin has the highest upside of these guys I think. What do you think of these other guys? I'm leaning towards Anderson based on his 5 steals so far this season. Essentially that's what I want here - steals and an AVG. and OBP. that won't kill me. Power's a bonus, but not really a concern here.

I see Winn and Maybin as decent upgrades on Gomez for this season.

Anderson is a slight downgrade on Gomez.
If you need more SB and HR go for Maybin. If you need a better average, runs and RBIs go for Winn.

Help please!?

I don't think this is Maybin's year yet, although he's a legit power threat he hasn't finished developing and there are still holes in his swing (outside pitches, I think.)

It looks like all these guys have speed. Gomez stole 30ish bases last season but is projected to hit for the worst AVG out of the four (.250-.260). Anderson is projected to do the same, but he hasn't done it in the majors yet. Randy Winn will give you 20 or so (he's getting old), but will probably hit for the best average (.290ish).

Looks to me like Anderson is the best choice as he's projected to hit for a better average than Gomez and steal more bases than Winn. The only thing is that he's not an established commodity yet.

Thanks for looking at my roster from before, check out this OF glut I now have: viewtopic.php?t=381074

Going to play the hot hand. Anderson it is. I don't see any of these guys as more than a 4th outfielder and someone to sub in on getaway days for a little extra speed. Now I've got Bonifacio and would like an infield replacement. Callaspo from KC? Manny Burress? Edgar Renteria? My league is pretty deep as you can imagine so the choices are pretty slim.

Think I may give Burress a look...
