McLouth/Hunter/Ethier/Burrell/Ellsbury. One has to go...

Postby Hey Hermano » Sun Apr 26, 2009 2:02 pm

OK, so somehow I picked up Jacoby Ellsbury, of all people, off of the waiver wire. But, this leaves me with 5 OFs: Nate McLouth, Jacoby Ellsbury, Torii Hunter, Andre Ethier, Pat Burrell in the Util spot, and now Ellsbury. I can only start 4 of them. Whom should I try to trade?

My league has BB and OBP as stats so Burrell is useful, McLouth and Hunter are 20/20 guys, Ethier can hit for power and average, and Ellsbury is a steals machine with developing OBP skills. Right now, I feel like Ethier would be the odd man out, just because he doesn't steal bases and his value's at a peak right now.

I'm looking to upgrade one of my extra IF spots, or maybe trade for another top pitcher.

This is my roster, by the way:
Yahoo 12-team H2H league, a weird 13x12 (the significant ones are R, HR, RBI, AVG, SB, BB, OBP, SB%, SB-CS x W, K, SV, ERA, WHIP, BB, H, and R.) Extra counting stats for pitchers, which sucks, but whatever.

C - Brian McCann
1B - Miguel Cabrera
2B - Robinson Cano
SS - Troy Tulowitzki
3B - Evan Longoria
IF - Jason Giambi
IF - Edwin Encarnacion
OF - Nate McLouth
OF - Torii Hunter
OF - Andre Ethier
BN - Marco Scutaro

SP - Jake Peavy
SP - Felix Hernandez
P - Zack Greinke
P - John Danks
P - Erik Bedard
P - Wandy Rodriguez
P - Gil Meche
P - Joe Saunders
P - Paul Maholm
RP - Jonathan Broxton
RP - Chad Qualls

EDIT: Thanks for the responses. A lot of you have suggested moving Burrell as he's the worst of the five. I'm inclined to agree. What would you say is fair value for him, in a vacuum, in terms of an IF or an SP? Derek Lowe? Matt Garza? Chris Davis? Garrett Atkins?

I agree with your assessment that Ethier will give you good value in a trade. I might offer Burrell first and then move on to ethier. thanks for helping with mine

Sounds like a good problem to have. I would try to trade Burrell first. You may not be able to get much for him, though, so you may have to look at trading Ethier or even Hunter. Even if you lose Hunter, Ethier and Ellsbury will be quality fill-ins.

Thanks for your help on mine.
