Ryan vs. Downs (WHIR)

Postby etex211 » Sun Apr 26, 2009 9:58 am

18 team 5x5 roto....

BJ Ryan is one of my two closers in this league. Brian Wilson is the other. With Ryan on the shelf, I need to try to replace that lost production. I am already slipping behind in saves in this league.

I am trying to figure out how much of my free agent budget to blow on a bid for Downs with tomorrow's league transactions.

Here are my questions:

1. How serious is Ryan's injury and how long will he be out?

2. When he does return, will he automatically be handed back his job?

3. Is it a given that Downs will get all of the save opportunities while Ryan is out?

Thanks. WHIR, leave a link.

I have Ryan and picked up Downs. He's on the DL so it's a min of 15 days. He hasn't been great thus far so if Downs comes in a does well as the closer, I don't think Ryan will get his job back. Gaston was ready to make the switch before he got hurt, Ryan just did him a favor. Downs is the guy. For the moment at least.

I am in the same boat. I own Ryan and I picked up Downs Thursday night once Ryan was palced on the DL.

Downs has been good so far this season in relief. The jury is still out if he can be a consistent closer. I would pick him up just to handcuff Ryan. Not sure if this DL stint will help Ryan. I am thinking Ryan's head may be a little screwed right now along with his velocity. But I hope he will get his act together or I might try trading for a closer or hope a find one later on the WW!

Good Luck!
