Trying to deal closer

Postby wkpdpack » Sat Apr 25, 2009 12:35 pm

I am trying to make a deal that would include Hanrahan and open up a spot for me to activate Baker. I'm targeting a team with only one closer. I can also include a guy like minor leaguer Sanchez since he has an open spot on his minor league bench. Can you offer me up some suggestions on what I should offer? Guys of interest he has are Posada, K. Johnson, Garza. I think those guys address 3 of my needs.

Free agent 2B available are A. Cabrera, Iwamura and Scutaro. Pitchers and catchers are picked pretty thin. Wakefield is top pitcher right now along with Uehara, Looper, Bush, S. Marshall. So I definitely would like to get a pitcher in the deal since Baker has issues right now. Send me your suggestions.

If I don't make a deal, would you drop Hanrahan, Greene, or Aviles and bring up Stewart (prefer not to do this until he plays full-time)

My team:
C Navarro, Snyder
1B Howard
2B Aviles
3B Blalock (Gordon on DL)
SS Furcal
MI S. Drew
CI Morneau
OF Hamilton, Braun, Kemp, Granderson, Hart
U Fukudome
P Bell, Billingsley, Blanton (Kuroda on DL), Greinke, C. Lee, Millwood (Baker on DL), Percival, KRod, Scherzer
Bench: Ad. LaRoche, Greene, Hanrahan
Minors: Milledge, Rasmus, Fowler, I. Stewart, G. Sanchez (can remain on minor league bench as long as I want to keep them there even though they might be in majors, but once I bring them up they stay on major bench unless they are sent back to the minors.)

His team:
C Posada, Pudge (Mauer on DL)
1B Tex
2B K. Johnson
3B Miggy
SS Hardy
MI Tejada
CI Berkman
OF Abreu, Dunn, Ordonez, C. Young, D. Young
U Bonifacio
P Joba, Corpas, Floyd, Garza, Kazmir, Maholm, Myers, BJ Ryan, Shields
Bench: Owens, Guthrie, Slowey
Minors: Butler, Heyward, Hughes, Willis

Thanks for the help with mine!

I don't think you could really get anything for Hanrahan right now. He is struggling and you are selling low.

But, you may want to try Hanrahan/Sanchez for Posada or K. Johnson and see if he bites. I would try Posada first!

Good Luck!

Thanks for the help...

Yeah, you wont' get anything for Hanrahan right now, but you could throw him in with an OF, you have some depth there, and it looks like he could use one.

Good luck!

I would try Hanarhan and Sanchez for Posada. The worst he could say is no but he might say yes. Either way it opens up the door to start discussing different options to get Posada or Johnson.

Thanks for helping with mine.

I need more information before trying to answer your question. How many teams? What's the scoring? What starting positions do you have to play each day? Is this a keeper league? If so, how many keepers do you get?

It's a keeper league, keep 7 from year to year plus up to 5 on minor league bench. Standard 5x5 roto scoring. 12 team league. We have weekly lineups and play 2 C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, MI, CI, 5 OF, 1 U, 9 P. We have 3 bench players. I'm currently tied for 1st. 8th in BA, 5th in HR, 1st in R, 5th in RBI, 3rd in SB. 2nd in ERA, 6th in K's, T1 in S, T4 in W, and 2nd in WHIP.

I think my offense is underperforming right now with Hamilton doing absolutely nothing and Braun just starting to heat up. Pitching could use one more quality starter I think since Blanton hasn't looked great and Baker is not looking hot right now either. Scherzer I think will heat up, but he also might be trade bait since it's a keeper league.

I agree with targeting Posada since he has Mauer coming back soon.

I think Posada is going to have a good year and I agree with prior posts to target him. I have Hanrahan in several leagues and cannot give him away, so don't expect any value for him (in fact, your own post asks if you should drop him).

As for your second question, I was very high on Stewart at the beginning of the year, and I don't know how much he will play and/or produce, so would not drop any of the players you mentioned for him.
