10-team $500 league. Do I have a shot?

Postby BC » Fri Mar 12, 2004 7:34 pm

This is a 10-team, 5x5 Roto league. I drafted with the 8th pick. I'd appreciate any feedback.

C Matt LeCroy
1B Jim Thome
2B Jeff Kent
SS Angel Berroa
3B Mike Lowell
CIF Rafael Palmeiro
MIF Jimmy Rollins
OF Magglio Ordonez
OF Shawn Green
OF Torii Hunter
OF Mike Cameron
OF Jacque Jones
Util Brad Wilkerson
SP Mark Prior
SP Barry Zito
SP Wade Miller
SP Kevin Millwood
SP Russ Ortiz
SP Derek Lowe
RP Octavio Dotel
RP Matt Mantei
RP Bob Wickman
Bench Tony Batista
Bench Marlon Byrd
Bench Fernando Rodney

I'm going to discuss my draft strategy at each position do give you an idea of how I like to draft.

C - My strategy going into the draft was to get LeCroy late because I think he can put up power numbers that are close to a guy like Piazza.
1B - All I wanted here was power, which is why I took Thome and Palmeiro.
2B - I wanted one of the top 6 2B.
SS - I wanted one of the top 10 SS and then I looked for a SS that steals a lot of bases later on to fill by MIF position.
3B - This position is pretty deep so I really didn't have much strategy here, but when Lowell became available in the 5th round, I had to have him.
OF - I like guys who can hit for power and steal a few bases, which all of these guys can.
Util - I like to grab another power guy here.
SP - I like to grab young arms on good teams for my first couple pitchers and then proven older arms for my last couple.
RP - I wanted a 40-, 30-, and 20-save guy.
Bench - I wanted a power specalist, a speed specialist and a guy who would get 10-15 saves.

I think your OF is a little weak for a 10 team league, although I can see where you're going with that strategy.

Infield is nice, I agree with you on LeCroy, as do a lot of people.

Starters look good, closers less so, Mantei's an injury risk, and who knows what's going on in Cleveland?

Overall a good team though.

I think you'll definitely have a chance to take first.

Hunter, Cameron and Jones would concern me. Especially Cameron. I might look to upgrade there.
