Indians placed designated hitter Travis Hafner on the 15-day disabled list with soreness in his right shoulder.

It's somewhat disconcerting that Hafner is reportedly headed for a visit with Dr. James Andrews, but manager Eric Wedge told MLB.com that, "We don't think it's anything serious" and added, "Hopefully it's just a two-week thing." The Indians have called up Rich Rundles to take Hafner's place, but are expected to add a hitter prior to Friday's game. Possible options to join the team include David Dellucci (currently rehabbing in Columbus) and Matt LaPorta, who's hitting a scalding .368 at Triple-A.




Keeping my fingers crossed for a call-up!!! But you're probably right, Dellucci will most likely be the replacement. It's a shame.

Indians recalled OF David Dellucci from Triple-A Columbus.

Dellucci replaces LHP Rich Rundles on the roster. He's hit well in the past, and was tearing up Triple-A pitching. He should get playing time against righties at DH, and may spell Ben Francisco in left field some as well.

Brendan Roberts: I think soon, and I have enough sources backing me to believe in that. The team can't continue on with Hafner's bat in the lineup and Trevor Crowe playing as much as he has. That said, and I hate to burst your bubble here, but I don't think LaPorta hits in the majors this year. He's one of those guys who seems to struggle every time he is jumped to a new level. It simply takes him awhile to figure it out. I think the same thing will happen when he's called up. I think he'll flail at first.

I don't know where he got that b.s from about him struggling at new levels.

LaPorta pwned AAA this season - the first time he's been at that level. I know we should temper our expectations for shexy rookies, but what he says here is totally incorrect.

The Indians plan to call up Matt LaPorta, Luis Valbuena and Josh Barfield prior to Saturday's game.

Trevor Crowe and Tony Graffanino will be exiled, while reliever Joe Smith (shoulder) will be placed on the DL. Manager Eric Wedge supposedly said LaPorta would serve "as a complement to David Dellucci," which is a complete joke if he really meant it. Calling up Valbuena to serve as a backup for three regulars who won't sit very often is a ridiculous move -- it makes much more sense for him to play regularly in Triple-A -- but LaPorta will be of immediate use with Hafner on the disabled list. Still, Wedge has to be trusted to use him correctly and we have less faith in him by the day.

Your league probaby does not have "New Players Become Available:" set to "As soon as Yahoo! adds them." I believe the default option maybe as soon as they've played and mlb game.
