Drop Garrett Atkins for steals/comparable stats? WHIR

Postby Deesul » Thu Apr 23, 2009 11:45 pm

First off my league is a Yahoo standard 5x5 H2H with 10 teams.
I'm losing steals this week and furthermore I am not seeing the value of having Atkins on my bench. Available speedsters/decent hitters on the wire are:

Nyjer Morgan
Emilio Bonifacio
Endy Chavez
Akinori Iwamura
Brett Gardner

Are any of these worth a look over Atkins?
Here is my roster:

----
C: John Baker
1B: Carlos Pena
2B: Brandon Phillips
3B: David Wright
SS: Michael Young
LF: Manny Ramirez
CF: Shane Victorino
RF: Josh Hamilton
UT: David Ortiz
BN: Garrett Atkins
BN: Matt Wieters (NA)
DL: Alex Rodriguez

SP: Cole Hamels, Chad Billingsley, Roy Oswalt, Javier Vazquez, Jered Weaver, Scott Baker, Kyle Davies
RP: Frank Francisco, Chad Qualls, Matt Lindstrom
DL: Hiroki Kuroda

I would not drop Atkins for any of those guys. I'd work hard to make a trade if he's just sitting on your bench. Some team out there is surely to have more steals than hitters and will be willing to deal someone with more value than waiver wire claims.

Definitely keep Atkins. Why would you drop him for these one-dimensional guys? Do you really need speed that bad in a h2h league? I mean, you could lose steals every week and still dominate 9-1.

Both good points, thanks.
I was probably getting a little trigger happy there. I'm playing my arch nemesis this week, he beat me everytime last year and barely squeaked out the championship over me and this week I'm beating him 9-1 and want to make it as painful as possible for him, lol.

I absolutely agree with this. You don't drop a 3-4 cat contributor in Atkins for a one dimensional player. You're much, much better off punting saves as you have no one outside of Davies that's worth dropping for any of those guys. Thanks for your help with mine!

Thanks for helping with mine. I agree that you should keep Atkins. I would definitely try to trade him for something, perhaps another starter or closer?
