What you don't understand is that NOT BUNTING is giving away outs. You much more likely to do nothing prductive at all. At least moving a man over is a productive at bat. If anything, your own point is the reason bunting is used.

yeah, for bad hitting pitchers, it is a lot more productive than a K or a double play. for position players, even lousy hitting shortstops, it is very rarely a good idea to sac bunt. however late in 1 run or tied games, it usually increases win expectancy, which is by definition better than an average plate appearance.

NL is worth bunting in. It's much easier to bunt and get 1 out, than hit into a double play

When the NL decides it wants to move into the post 1960s era, I might be interested.
Otherwise :-P

Bunting is seriously a lost art for a reason. Back in the day when your CF, 2B, SS and C were all terrible hitters it made a lot of sense to bunt a lot. Now that your P and maybe C are probably the only black holes in your lineup bunting is just a bad move the majority of the time.

The bunt is underrated art form. So many key situations go the pitcher because the hitting team's coach neglected to appreciate the value of moving a base runner 90 feet closer to home.

most position players SHOULD know how to bunt. bunting a player into scoring position can be beneficial and lead to scoring a run.
i would rather have a player at 2nd base with 1 out than 1st base with 0 out.
i do think it depend on who the hitters are or what the situation is. your not going to bunt with your top hitter at the plate, and you probually dont want to bunt with your best hitter on deck allowing the other team to walk your best hitter.
you have 27 outs to score more runs than the other team. how you choose to use those 27 outs are up to that team. you dont have to bunt, but if you can use an out to score a run why not do it?
you only get a hit roughly 3 times out of 10 so the chances are your going to make an out anyway, why not make it a productive out.

i do agree that more pitchers should know how to bunt. it would be nice if they knew better how to actually hit, but since their number 1 priority is pitching i can understand not being the best hitters. they should know there are going to be times when they should atleast know how to bunt and spend time in batting practice working on bunting so they dont look like fools when they are asked to bunt.
