What is fair trade value for Ortiz *WHIR*

Postby CubsFan7724 » Thu Apr 23, 2009 9:32 pm

I plucked him off the waiver wire in my 14 team H2H with OPS and Holds as 6th cats league with my #1 priority thanks to an impatient owner, which has garnered me 2 trade offers already. I need starters decently (I really need closers, with Hoffman and BJ Ryan, but I feel like I'm just going to punt saves at this point.) One guy offered me Carmona and Maine for Ortiz and Bonifacio, which I just rejected, obviously. Another guy offered me Oswalt for Ortiz straight up. I'm not keen on Oswalt, but he does have some players I'd be more willing to take:

My team
C- Pierzynski
1B - Berkman
2B- Cano
3B- Youkilis
SS - Theriot
CF - Spilborghs (yeah, I know. I got stuck with Milledge and no one on the wire as I got sniped off Swisher and Fukudome. An area I want to address)
OF - Pence
OF - Ordonez
UTIL - Ortiz
BN - Bradley
BN - Bonifacio
BN - Burrell
BN - Milledge (I think I'm going to have to let him go, bench is too narrow.)

SP - Santana
SP - Hamels
RP - Putz
RP - Tony Pena
P - Saito
P - Cain
BN - Lohse
DL - Ryan
DL - Hoffman

His team:

C - Soto
1B - Joey Votto
2B - Rickie Weeks
3B - Josh Fields
SS - Reyes
CF - Bruce
OF - Cruz
OF - Drew
UTIL - Swisher
BN - Adam LaRoche
DL - Guerrero

SP - Sabathia
SP - Gallardo
RP - Papelbon
RP - Bell
P - Oswalt
P - Lilly
BN - Kuo
BN - Edwin Jackson
BN - Motte
BN - Hawkins
DL - Kuroda

The players I really want off his team are Gallardo, Bruce, Soto, and Swisher. I was thinking of swinging him Ortiz/Pierzynski/Burrell, but I may give up too much power with that. I could really use the upgrade at all 3 positions, but I don't think he's going to bite on that. I could trade for a reliever, but at this point, I'd have to get 2 good closers to compete without Ryan and Hoffman isn't really a solid #2 closer (and Ryan isn't either) so I feel at this point it may be smarter to punt and try to win holds every week.

What is too low of value to give up Ortiz for? I feel like my suggestion is pretty fair for both parties. I don't thinK Ortiz will be that bad but there he probably won't be as productive as he was a few years back. I'm just kind of stuck because I don't see anyone I really want to give up Ortiz for straight up but I don't really have many other bargaining chips to work with.

Did you try Gallardo for Ortiz? If he declines that. Hold on to Ortiz, I think he will turn it around enough to get better value for him.

Honestly, I'm not real big on Ortiz this year. I would have taken that Oswalt deal in a heartbeat if you need some pitching. Good luck to ya!

Help on mine

Only 3 HR and a .143 ISO from a first baseman in 118 AAA PA so far? Nice AVG but he's looking an awful lot like James Loney right now.

I don't really want to do that straight up because I'm basically selling low on Ortiz for a player that is perceived to have less value than him. Gallardo has been good, but not great. I don't want to just deal Ortiz straight up because I need the power bat also, which is why I was hoping to flip him someway for a deal with a pitcher and a bat like Bruce or Soto.

I have a guy that is offereing me Ortiz for Broxton. I'm not going to take it most likely just due to i'm not sure Ortiz can turn it around IMO.

I agree with what was said bove about taking Oswalt. I don't see Ortiz anywherenear his old self ever again. He may have a couple of days in a row and people will start jumping back on the wagon. To me that wagon is really a miscarriage. Time to park it in the back of the barn and let it rot.

I would have taken Oswalt for Ortiz in a heartbeat. Might want to reconsider that one.

Can you return the favor plz? viewtopic.php?t=380784

He offered me Swisher/Oswalt for Ortiz/Hoffman. Considering I'm probably going to punt saves, sounds good, right?
