Holliday for Grienke and Posada?

Postby avalanche244 » Thu Apr 23, 2009 8:59 pm

I am in a standard 5x5 head to head 12 team league. My current roster is
C - J.Buck - KC
1B - A. Gonzalez - SD
2B - A. Ramirez - CWS
3B - K. Youklis - Bos
SS - S. Drew - Ari
OF - R. Braun - Mil
OF - J. Hamilton - Tex
OF - M. Holliday - Oak
Util - R. Ludwick - StL
Ben - J. Werth - OF - Phi
Ben - J. Lopez - 2B - Sea
Ben - N. Swisher - 1B, OF - NYY
Ben - R. Theriot - 2B, SS - ChC
Ben - P. Sandoval - 1B, 3B - SF

SP - Y. Gallardo - Mil
SP - M. Cain - SF
RP - K. Wood - Cle
RP - F. Fransisco - Tex
P - J. Johnson - Fla
P - J. Guthrie - Bal
P - J. Weaver - LAA
Ben - J. Washburn - SP - Sea
DL - C. Carpenter - Sp - StL

I recently lost R. Doumit to the Broken wrist and could really use the Catcher because I don't have faith in John Buck. I like Posada and I think Grienke is a stud. I just hate that Grienke plays for KC.

I believe in M. Holliday and think he will turn it around but OF is such a strength for me and SP and C are such a weakness. Do you guys think that I am getting enough in this deal for Holliday? It was recently offered to me and it fills my biggest needs. But is it too early to be chasing positions?

thanks for insightful response to mine. Your deal is tough, I think Grienke is legit this year and Posada could put up big numbers in the New NY stadium but I question his durability. You don't want to end up with another injured catcher dilemma. What other C are avail on your ww?

well not much. I picked up Buck because he was playing the best out of all of them... though it is in part time work split with Olivo. Other Catchers available are:

- J. Varitek
- K. Suzuki
- J. Saltalamaccia
- A.J. Pierzynski
- M. Wieters (just recently dropped by his owner.... though he hasn't played yet this year)

If Wieters is the option here is he worth my #5 Waiver position. Waiver wouldn't pass til' Sunday and Trade offer expires Saturday.

I think your staff needs Grienke and Posada is a considerable upgrade over the catchers listed. I'd do it but its a tough call. Hollidays new home in Oakland and Posada's new park definitely color the choice.

I think you should make this trade
Greinke is fantastic and finally showing it
He will be top 10 pitcher next year for sure

Posada is not far removed from a great season before injury and looking good so far
Holliday may be a victim of Coors Field
Trade Holliday before it's too late

please help me

i think u would be giving up too much. i like greinke a lot and i believe he will do well, BUT last year was his first good season. i'd expect somebody a bit more proven in exchange for holliday.

afterall, we are only 1 season away from him being a consensus late first round to mid second round pick, and i for one do not believe the move will hurt his numbers much. i also do not have as much faith in posada as u do.

help with mine?

You'd be selling low on Holliday and buying high on Greinke... I wouldn't do it.

Thanks for the informed insight on mine.

I think I would accept the offer. Grienke, Gallardo, Cain makes a strong 1-2-3 punch at the start of your rotation. Posada is an upgrade over Buck, although a potential injury risk: nevertheless, I like that Posada bats cleanup in the Yankees lineup and DHs some days to rest his body. Do you have Doumit on your DL, or do you only have one DL spot?

I think Holliday figures it out, but his value took a hit when he left Coors field. In the end I think the value Posada presents over Buck, plus the addition of the Grienke outweighs the statistical hit you take when you plug in a replacement for Holliday as your Util (I assume Ludwick slots over to OF3 to give you flexibility in your Util player, yes?)

Only one DL spot, I figured I would hang on Carpenter. He looked so good through Spring and his first start. Plus the injury was not shoulder and elbow related. I will try to get Doumit back when he is close or if Carp comes off the DL first but I don't know with a Wrist injury to a hitter if Doumit will be as effective.

And yeah. Ludwick to OF3 and I still have Werth and Swisher if he struggles.
